April 1958. does anyone have any photos, video or any info of the bout?
its my home town and as far as i know it was the only time a current heavyweight champ visitied the city (then town) let alone had a fight or exhibition.

Sullivan was over in England November 1887 to January 1888.
when he was still HW Champion.
other towns he viisted there doing exhibitions was.
London
Birmingham
Liverpool
Manchester
Derby
Sheffield
Oldham
Portsmouth
he aslo visted Wales,Scotland and Ireland.

Jack Johnson (as World HW Champion) also preformed at the Hippodrome in Preston England
back in October 1915.
He was with his new Music Hall revue "Seconds Out"
He also preformed on stage schtick with a Stan laurel type of character
and played the Bass violin while his wife Lucille Cameron did the oyster shell dance
also led the crowd in a chorus of Its a long way to Tippery
(source Unforgivable Blacknes page 388)
