Is Frampton getting the best deal from McGuigan

Post by mullenman »

Firstly I am a massive Frampton fan and i think he would take quigg easily enough but,
the question i want to ask is that is McGuigan doing best for Carl or doing best for himself and his stable?

check out iflv video and see what you think.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HhNftH9l-k

massive fight against quigg on the table for the biggest cheque of his career on the table with no options

Carl should already have faught for a world title so why not fight quigg for massive money?
I dont understand barrys thinking for not taking the fight as quigg will get santa cruiz before him if they want..

Frampton has got a fight left on his BN deal, he can't do anything with Quigg until then.

I did at the start, and still do slightly question how genuine Barry motives were. But he is doing fine.

Mcguigan is certainly looking after his self, otherwise why would he take Frampton from Matchroom, because they would not allow him to be joint promoter of Frampton shows, I mean he is already Framptons manager and he put his son in as trainer, It looks like he see's the numbers Frampton generates and wants a piece, could be milking the cash cow for as much as possible here, Matchroom would have got him a world title shot by now, instead of Quigg.

Matchroom where not interested in putting Frampton on in Ireland anymore- they even had him booked on Luke Campbell's undercard in Hull for goodness sake..
We've seen the two sell outs shows with great atmospheres in Belfast since he joined BN that Barry has put on...Carl is reportedly taking home more coin as well so in that respect Barry has done the lad ok.
Carl would have had the fake 'world title' belt that Quigg has if he didn't move over...big deal unlike fast car is saying nobody considers Scott to be a world champion and the belt does not give him any leverage over Frampton and certainly not a LSC etc. By the way Hearn is also talking rubbish about Quigg getting a shot at LSC instead of Carl..he asks why would LSC fight Frampton for 500.000 US in ireland well if he won't take that why would he fight Quigg in the US (Hearn wont put up the money to try to get him to come over here and really has no intention to put on the fight anyway) who's name unlike Carl's he has never mentioned for what would be peanuts??

On the flipside it sounds like the McGuigan's are struggling to do a deal with LSC so if that's the case it's a big disappointment - so yes and end of year fight with Quigg would make sense. But where Manchester? Even over here I reckon Frampton would be the bigger support so the money and egos are going to be a problem.

i have been to two of Carls last three fights and am obviously a fan of his.

I dont know believe he makes more money from Bn than he would do with Sky sports (or is barry's cut too big as was my main question).Barry has to deliver a world title in his next fight but what eddie hearn says makes perfect sense to me.

I also think eddie heran could offer Cruiz a lot more money to fight quigg in the MEN than Barry could give him to fight in Belfast

MEN would be the best place for the fight but why wait till christmas, September would be perfect

I reckon Frampton could fill the MEN with his own fans against Quigg.

Is Frampton getting a cut of the Promotional earnings, through Mcguigan promotions ? that is the question ? How is Frampton better off leaving Matchroom ? He was on the verge of getting a world title shot, if Quigg get's Santa Cruz, he will after go to Matchroom for a fight with Quigg, if Quigg wins. Where is the clout ?

Couldn't agree more

Also when McCloskey fougth Khan at the Manc Arena there were much more McCloskey fans and they were the only people making the noise.

Carl is a much bigger draw than McCloskey and Scott is a much less a draw than Amir Khan

I think that sometimes people forget how quickly an Irish fighter can generate a following. Frampton really is a superstar there and he's also generated interest in him over here (not only just fans with an irish background). He would sell the odyssey out for the Cruz fight if ticket prices were doubled to pay for him to come over.

Quigg (and i do like Quigg) isn't anywhere near that stage yet.

quigg has the belt and has eddie and sky behind him

i just want to know do people think that McGuigan is holding frampton back as i think he would be a world champion now with eddie hearn and no McGuigan?

I don't think so and i'm just going to give an example of why. I can't remember the timelines as such but i'd compare it to Haye & Maccarinelli, i think Enzo was 'world champion' first but was never a star who could sell out on his own. Haye did it the long way but due to this groundwork, he could really cash in and became the star that he is which has no doubt secured his and his kids(?) financial future. Enzo is still fighting at a much lower level.

Now i don't for a minute think Frampton will ever be as big as Haye was in the UK but due to McGuigan putting him on in the right areas, with the right undercards which have generated atmospheres not seen since the Hatton days, he will be able to sell out big arenas and even stadiums over the sea.

In the short term race for a paper title, he might be behind. In the medium to long-term, Barry has done him a great service.

There are some big assumptions in there - the big one being that a fight with Cruz can be arranged in Belfast. Even so - then what ?

A bird in the hand etc. - from a fans point of view, a fight with Quigg with no options would be great for the fans and also both boxers - financially and career wise.

And, if the fight lives up to expectations, then we could see a rematch that could generate even more interest like with Froch and Groves (and even a third fight if the rematch ends up 1-1 as this is surely what will happen if Groves beats Froch).

What i meant about selling out the Odyssey is that Frampton is doing it now and would still do so for a big fight even if the ticket prices were doubled. That would also include bringing Quigg over. Quigg would not generate the same level of ticket demand.

I'd love nothing more than to see that pair have a couple of fights. I wasn't saying either is better or worse in terms of boxing ability, more about fanbase and being in a good position to cash in.

My understanding of the situation is that Frampton gets a share from the promotion.

So even if the pie is slightly smaller, Frampton's portion is bigger.

Frampton's stock is hot in Belfast at the moment and they can easily drag out having to fight Quigg or LSC for at least six months and blame it on the other party and have another two less risky fights in the mean time.

If you think Santa Cruz who fights on showtime for big purses will come over to fight Scott Quigg for that pretty meaningless belt then you're mad. The only way it would happen is if Eddie offered a huge sum and I dont see him doing that. Also I think LSC would knock Quigg out in the process.

If they were getting a better deal with Matchroom, they'd have stayed there.

It was nothing to do with a better deal, Mcquigan wanted his promotional outfit to be joint promoters with Matchroom, on Frampton shows, Matchroom did not want to, they even questioned Mcguigans motives.

Maybe I'm being overly kind to McGuigan, but I've never thought that he's trying to take a huge financial advantage from Frampton's success by taking him away from Matchroom, I just saw it as McGuigan wanting to keep as much control of Frampton's career as possible due to their close bond.

Not saying Barry won't be trying to maximise his financial return wherever possible, but I don't think it's his main priority in this case, he seems to genuinely care about Frampton & just wants to make sure he's managed/promoted correctly.

Frampton himself has never seemed unhappy with how things are going.

They've already blanked Rigo's offer. Shane McGuigan said he'd only got 2 or 3 fights left at super-bantam.

Maybe that's Kid's short cut to the top. No one else wants to fight either so could be a big chance for him.
