Paulie Malinaggi - Ringside last night
Paulie Malinaggi - Ringside last night
Anyone else felt that Paulie was alluding to the fact Porter was taking more than his vitamins?
He seemed very humble last night. Always comes across well.

Porter worked with Victor Conte for the Alexander and Paulie fights so the thought had already crossed my mind. Gone from looking fairly ordinary to outstandingly powerful...hmm, must be the improved diet
Re: Paulie Malinaggi - Ringside last night
I would not be suprised if Porter was on something apart from his last two fights, he has not looked like anything special, Malinaggi has always been tough and had a good chin, that is until he fought Porter, he did the same to Alexander, he bullied him and walked through him at times, though he did not take him out like Malinaggi.Gazmac81 wrote:i was thinking that as he kept repeating it but maybe he just meant he didnt expect anything like that so wasnt prepared for it

Just watched the Porter-Paulie fight for the first time. Disgusting reffing. Almost like the anti-Howard Foster. No defense and taking full on power shots to the temple was a bit sickening

I'm just asking as I'm no expert on PEDs but is it possible to get similar results with legal supplements, nutrition & hard work?domjon wrote:Porter worked with Victor Conte for the Alexander and Paulie fights so the thought had already crossed my mind. I know it's easy for us to think the worst these days & we're probably right in doing so but can an athlete get into tip top condition without cheating? Tim Bradley strikes me as one who goes the correct route although everytime he fights Pacquiao he has a problem with his legs
Are there legal supplements out there which can make you look like the illegal ones?

It certainly is possible. You can adjust your diet, shorten your long runs to more strints, add a bit of power lifting/strength training, set yourself more when you punch/follow through more etcTaansend wrote:I'm just asking as I'm no expert on PEDs but is it possible to get similar results with legal supplements, nutrition & hard work?domjon wrote:Porter worked with Victor Conte for the Alexander and Paulie fights so the thought had already crossed my mind. dont know about porter being on the gear, but alexander was bullied by bradley down at lww, and malignaggi has been flattered by his wins over senechenko, and the wildly overrated broner. and can hardly be described as a career welter. he has been getting by on experience lately , but is not a real threat to the top guys at the weight. im sure porter wont be able to bully a genuine big strong punching welter like brook.
Re: Paulie Malinaggi - Ringside last night
I haven't seen much of SP, he was very wild against Paulie, possibly due to the fact he knew Paulie would not hurt him.
Is he normally that wild? Maybe thats where the increased power has come from? People are so quick to blame PED's, the majority of people no nothing about PED's. The main benefit of steroids is that they increase protein synthesis, which as boxer who is trying to put weight on, can be a major advantage. However, for increased punching power I don't think they give a massive advantage, people make out like they could turn a Paulie Malignaggi in to a David price kind of puncher.

Just watched it. Might as well have said Porter was juiced up to the eyeballs.

He was completely implying that. Obviously he can't come out and say it, but he might as well have. Wasn't Paulie the first one to accuse Manny over doping as well?
Maybe he knows something, or maybe it's just sour grapes - although Paulie doesn't strike me as the type to have sour grapes... he wasn't like that after the Hatton or Khan defeats.

Re: Paulie Malinaggi - Ringside last night
Yes PED's do increase protein synthesis, protein as most people know, repairs muscle which is broken down faster, this enables you to train harder, hit harder, push yourself further, because of this you feel stronger and more powerful, weights don't have the same effects, weights is a pushing motion, not a snapping motion, weights tightens muscles, punching from boxing requires relaxed muscles, on the other side of the coin, a massage before a fight relax the twitch muscles to much, in which you lose your snap, the use of PED's for weight gain is different, that is like body building, you put on muscle instead of fat, many things can be used for increasing punch power, but they are slow gain, over period of time, PED's are much quicker gain, why would fighters risk destroying their career to take PED's, if (A) it makes no difference, (B) natural methods are just as quick (C) If you can push yourself just as hard, without them. People take PED's for a reason ? To get an unfair advantage in power, strength, speed and fitness.Wa1nuts wrote:I haven't seen much of SP, he was very wild against Paulie, possibly due to the fact he knew Paulie would not hurt him.

Malignaggi must be bitter. Any chances of extending that string of fat paydays went down in four savage, one-sided rounds. I've never seen such a dull, average boxer recycled so many times in big fights. At least John Ruiz could actually hurt people.
Hopefully the 'Magic Man' now magically disappears from boxing.

Excuses Excuses
Re: Paulie Malinaggi - Ringside last night
They can be very useful for building strength and explosive power as they allow you to train harder and longer which is why weight lifters and sprinters use them. So they would be useful in building physical strength and power and would have a effect on punching power.Wa1nuts wrote:I haven't seen much of SP, he was very wild against Paulie, possibly due to the fact he knew Paulie would not hurt him.

I'm guessing they would drug test both boxers after the fight?
Also name a boxer that has tested positive for PED's and gone from average power to super puncher? I can't think of any.
I think Paulie just ran into a bigger, faster, stonger and younger guy. Paulie has been bullied in the past by Lightwelters and Porter is a big welter. Also Paulie came out exchanging with Porter, so employed the wrong tactics from the start.

Paulie has proved that you can fight at the top level without power, but with decent boxing skills, reflexes and a good chin
Re: Paulie Malinaggi - Ringside last night
Oh he was after Hatton. He said Hatton was one of the most ordinary fighters he'd ever faced and blamed Buddy McGirt for the loss. He's always been kind of whiny and a sore loser. http://ringtv.craveonline.com/news/1224 ... r-a-changeHappy Slapper wrote:He was completely implying that.
