Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
On Ringside, Amir Khan said that he wanted his next fight to be for this November - and that because of Ramadan he would not be able to fight Floyd Mayweather in September.
Ringisde showed him a graphic of their top 10 Welterweights and Amir finished it by saying that he wants to fight someone in the top 10 next.
So, who would you like to see Amir fight next in November? (The Ringside rankings look like this:)
1. Floyd Mayweather
2. Manny Pacquaio
3. Timothy Bradley
4. Juan Manuel Marquez
5. Shawn Porter
6. Marcos Maidana
7. Amir Khan
8. Robert Guerrero
9. Devon Alexander
10. Kell Brook
He can't fight the guys in red.
NOTE: I am doing the same poll over in the Current Scene to see how the Americans look at it. Could be an interesting distinction.

Re: Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
Porter or Maidana would be good but Thurman should be in that top 10 IMO.
Re: Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
I'd like to see him fight any of those guys or Thurman (who should be in there).
My preference would probably be the winner of Brook vs Porter.
I'm not sure who will win that fight but i've voted for brook as that would be my preference

Re: Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
No, Brook isn't deserving of a top 10 ranking.10. Kell Brook
How on Earth can they leave Thurman out of their rankings?
Khan against any top 10 fighter would be very good. He shouldn't fight Thurman though, he's too powerful.
Re: Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
Bradley woukd be the right fight for Khan. He's the best outwith Pacman and Mayweather. I think it's a better fight for Khan style wise than Pacqueo. If khans disciplined he wins that one well then fights Mayweather in May

Maidana's stock has never been higher, if he doesn't get the rematch with Floyd Khan could take the opportunity to fight him again, he'd get a lot more credit this time around & may get the American public believing he can beat Floyd.
He should steer well away from Thurman though, nightmare match-up for him.

He will avoid Maidana like the plague but what better way to secure a fight with Mayweather than convincingly beating the guy who ran Mayweather close??
I dont have the confidence that he can do that but has he?

I know its tough with the GBP vs TR stuff going on, but I would love to see him fight Pac.

Erm, Khan's already beaten Maidana.Emmseegee wrote:He will avoid Maidana like the plague but what better way to secure a fight with Mayweather than convincingly beating the guy who ran Mayweather close??

Re: Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
nobody's disputing that but Khan was almost KO'd in that fight. If he beat him again it would look great but Mayweather will only do whatever the heck he wants anyway. Khan could shut Maidana out 118-110 on three cards it doesn't guarantee him the big fight. Only that wouldn't happen anyway - likelihood is he would scrape through by the skin of his teeth again or maybe even get stopped this time.Boxerbeetle123 wrote:Erm, Khan's already beaten Maidana.Emmseegee wrote:He will avoid Maidana like the plague but what better way to secure a fight with Mayweather than convincingly beating the guy who ran Mayweather close??

I saw something the other day, can't remember where that said Maidana gave much more value to that Floyd fight than $1.5m..........Surely he got paid a lot more than that?

Pacquiao would be a very interesting fight. With the TR/GBP rift thought it's unlikely. But in boxing never say never....
Re: Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
Personally, I think that Mayweather will give Maidana the rematch in September, so I don't foresee Maidana as a possible next opponent.
I'd like to see Amir beat Devon Alexander - the fight was supposed to happen last year and Amir has the tools to do it.

I think that it's much more likely to see Top Rank from with Golden Boy on a Khan vs Pacquaio fight...black panther wrote:Pacquiao would be a very interesting fight. With the TR/GBP rift thought it's unlikely. But in boxing never say never....
Due to the fact that Mayweather wouldn't be involved in the event and that it's not the top money maker vs the top money maker of each company.
Plus Top Rank would be very confident in their guy beating Khan.
Re: Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
A fight against Pacquaio would be a lucrative victory should he win - because it means that he has the WBO belt that he could bring it to the table in negotiations for Mayweather for next May. And more importantly, claiming Pacquaio's scalp.

I give Khan a better shot at beating Floyd than he would have against Manny.
Khan vs Pacquiao should be entertaining though
Re: Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
Agreed. If Virgil Hunter is smart he would recognise that too. Pacquaio is a BAD fight for Amir.davie wrote:I give Khan a better shot at beating Floyd than he would have against Manny.

Oh sorry it must have totally slipped my mind that he beat Maidana.... Jesus, gimme a break. Maidana has vastly inproved since then, both have moved into a new division and at this particular moment in time Maidana is a widely more respected welterweight than Khan.Boxerbeetle123 wrote:Erm, Khan's already beaten Maidana.Emmseegee wrote:He will avoid Maidana like the plague but what better way to secure a fight with Mayweather than convincingly beating the guy who ran Mayweather close??

By your logic then maybe Maidana shouldnt be added in the polls then since Khan has already beaten him? Forgot people were only allowed to fight each other once.

I'd already said in an earlier post that Khan should fight Maidana if Maidana doesn't get the Floyd rematch, perhaps you could concentrate a bit more on what's already been said before posting?Emmseegee wrote:Oh sorry it must have totally slipped my mind that he beat Maidana.... Regardless, exactly how much Maidana has improved is debatable, I think he'd struggle with Khan's speed & accuracy like he did in the 1st fight, same as he struggled with Alexander.
Re: Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
Winner of Porter / Brook makes too much sense. You either get a fellow British fighter in Brook or a fighter who has just beat a British fighter.

I posted directly below your post saying i believe Khan will avoid Maidana like the plague because i had read the post. My last reply was aimed at your 'erm khans already beat maidana' statement as if I didnt realise that. I was making the point that i am not confident in khans ability to beat maidana again. The part that may have confused you will be where i asked if Khan would have confidence in beating Maidana again. Admittedly i could have written the sentence better.
Just because he did beat him once, doesnt mean he will be confident in doing it again. After all it wasnt an easy fight for him.
Cleared up?
Maidana now seems to be able to box when required and if he is capable of getting Mayweather on the ropes then i believe he could do the same with Khan. Khans downfall may be believing that he is capable of matching him on the inside. I dont doubt that Khans speed would cause Maidana problems as it would cause anyone problems but i think Maidana would win the fight by stoppage.

Maidana would eat a lot more leather against Khan than he did against Mayweather, who hasnt thrown in combination in years. Khan wouldn't be countering with 1 shot, he'd be leading off with 3 or 4, its more a case of whether Marcos could land in between the flurries.Emmseegee wrote:Reply to Boxerbeetle

Re: Amir Khan: His next fight POLL (British fans viewpoint)
I think Khan would deal with Maidana fairly easily if they fought again, Khan has exactly the style which will always cause Maidana problems. Maidana looks great against boxers who stand in front of him, Khan would beat him again with speed & movement. Let's also not forget that Maidana was nearly stopped in the 1st round by Khan, and Amir looks much stronger at welter than he did previously.columbo wrote:If he could do it the first time im sure he could do it again.funtime wrote:Maidana would eat a lot more leather against Khan than he did against Mayweather, who hasnt thrown in combination in years. Yeah but on the flipside Maidana has looked at his best lately aswell. Khan doesnt hit hard enough to deter Maidana. He does to the body but in terms of headshots he doesnt.Boxerbeetle123 wrote:I think Khan would deal with Maidana fairly easily if they fought again, Khan has exactly the style which will always cause Maidana problems.
