I was covering the last Gilmour show no boxing website or magazine's were there. Couldn't tell you why maybe being a 3 fight card they didn't think it was worth it.

When Steve Woods' lacky used to post adverts on here about "great shows" I asked him how many VIP boxers won their bouts on home shows (maybe not 100% but I bet not far off).

Small hall boxing is ok for the family and mates of the boxers themselves. A regular boxing fan is just wasting their money.

Yes i agree you'd have a point if all small halls were just home prospect v journeyman but a good proportion (over 50%) aren't.

Granted most the undercard will inevitabley be so (same as large shows), But a lot of small hall shows will still have 1 or 2 well matched fights. Ok so these are probably area title level or around that standard but those can result in some cracking fights. Its just a case of picking carefully.

A good card where you can see the progression of the prospects then see one or two well matched fights is worth the £ for me.

I'll be at Wembley Stadium in just over 2 weeks for Froch Groves 2 but the following week I'll be at The Venue in Dudley for a show headlined by Ryan Aston v Terry Carruthers. Now in my opinion thats a very interesting match.

i kindov lost intrest with boxing shows when my bro packed it last year but now my sons fighting amateur ive been going to watch his fights which are good events and always competive , i wouldnt have bothered my arse with pro shows due to shitty one sided fights but recently in scotland there seems to be a lot more even matched fights and by all accounts the last one by Colin Belshaw / Ian Wilson for Saltire promotions was getting rave reviews , if theres even fights and its reasonably priced then it can be a great night out.

the Dinner shows though have always been notorious for having crap fights and expensive , maybe this will change in future but i would be more inclined to go to a town hall or lesiure centre if i was going

Small Hall shows are the lifeblood of the sport and definitely need better marketing & advertising as well as more competitive matchups.
Matching local lads against obscure latvians may pad a record but harm the sport in the long run.
Recent shows in the north East with good British fighters facing each other such as Johnson McClumpa v Andrew Buchanan & Goodings v Fox brought in good fans and a great atmosphere because they were genuine 50/50 fights.
More of these, with better promotion outside of the normal boxing circles are needed to strengthen the sport. £35 for 3 or 4 hours of fights is a bargain IMO.

Im looking forward to covering the St Andrews bill for boxing news. Its the last show of the season on June 9th then i think they start again in September.

I really don't like saying this, as small hall shows are necessary for boxing, and small hall shows are more likely to produce even fights... BUT

Most small hall shows are terrible in terms of quality, featuring never will bes who shouldn't really be boxing pro as they will never make the money to justify the risk.

A decent amateur show is much better value.

I agree with th poster that said small hall shows are really just for friends and family of a boxer innone corner, journeyman innother. And have to be, as the fighter needs to sell £2k plus of tickets or can't get on.

I'd love to know why they ignore pro shows sanctioned by foreign bodies in UK but will report on British fighters fighting on shows sanctioned by the same bodies elsewhere.

Saltire's last two shows have been excellent would highly recommend going to the next one
