Stiverne v Arreola ref (spoiler)

I thought if a boxer wasn't ready to continue after 10 seconds from being knocked down he was supposed to be counted out. The ref (Jack Reiss?) gave Arreola 20 seconds after the first knockdown before he allowed the action to resume. Wipe your gloves.....are you alright....walk towards me......go back to a neutral corner(Stiverne). Bloody ridiculous. It's all very well giving the one kd a chance to recover, but what about his opponent's chance to win. It bordered on cheating IMO in favour of the home fighter.

Stiverne didn't do himself any favours by standing behind the ref instead of standing in the neutral corner.

In many respects I think it was better in the days when the onus was on the boxer to get up when he was ready to continue. The ref could still stop the fight if he thought it was unsafe to continue. ,

It seemed alright to me, he got an 8 count, the ref wiped his gloves, asked him if he were ok and to step toward him. Stiverne was lurking just behind the ref and ought to have stayed in the neutral corner.

The boxer has to be up before count of ten, not sure there is anything in the rules to say ref has to restart fight straight away, once the boxer is up the ref should check he can continue and the opponent is in the right area to box again.
Some refs do this better than others, ive seen refs stop the count and make the opponent get back in a neutral corner then take up the count again.

Last nights ref, could of been a bit quicker with his checks, he had a hard call after the 2nd knockdown, Arreola looked wobbly when he got up, thought he was going to get stopped then.

Whats your thoughts on Stiverne? He seemed very confident last night, talking his way through the fight. Finish was good, but I wasn't impressed with his footwork and his punchrate could of been better.
Wlad would start a big favourite over him, but Stiverne would be hard to beat by the rest of the heavies.

I think the fact that Stiverne was messing about gave Arreola a few extra seconds as the referee had to turn round and tell Stiverne to get back to where he was supposed to be. As it happens, it didn't really make a difference but if Arreola had come to his senses and gone on to win, I think Stiverne would have had nobody to blame but himself for not doing as he was told.

I thought Arreola was very fortunate to be allowed to continue after 1st KD as his legs were totally gone and i'm sorry but regardless if its a world title fight,if a fighter hasnt recovered after 10 or 20 in this case(Stivere's fault for not going straight to corner) either way the ref put Arreola's health in jeopardy and thankfully he wasn't knocked clean out

What a fantastic heavyweight title fight and such a breath of fresh air after the stupefying endless Klitschko years.

I know everyone is knocking the quality ( as Vitali probably still beats both these guys in neutral gear ) but to see two ultra brave, iron chinned, heavyweight punchers knocking six bells out of each other, was a throwback to some of the old days of heavyweight world title excitement.

These two warriors where phenomenal: not in terms of slick skills, but the vicious punches they both took, and came back from, were breathtaking. I though Arreola was done after that first round, but he came back magnificently, and almost pulled out a sensational win. But the mightily impressive Bermane Stiverne would not be denied.

Great fight, loved it. Now Deontay steps up I hope, as it'll be another bombs away war - and put all your money on The Hit Man from Haiti

Arreola is setting the table, with the jab, he wants to eat ! He's ready to feast !
he is flooding the basement, with those body shots, so the light in the attic goes on !

I was gonna say I think Stiverne just wins so often against Wilder. And I think the bookies are gonna get it spectacularly wrong and make Wilder a big favourite.
