underacheivers
underacheivers
Touched on this on another thread thought id expand the topic so, Audley with Olympic and commonwealth gold and pro European champ still underachieved, so how many other fighters have fallen so short of expectation ? I think Breland falls into that category and not that I know too much about him but Errol Christie also seems to get mentioned in this light any others ?

Re: underacheivers
For the talent he had Fernando Vargas under achieved, the Trinidad fight ruined him, was a soul destroying fight.
Re: underacheivers
Greg Page, but he probably didn't have the heart to be a fighter in the first place, knowing what I know now.
Re: underacheivers
Having watched Michael Gomez from young I thought he underachieved. He was a social animal and it cost him. He could, IMO, have mixed at world level. From the same part of the world, Patrick Barrett would undoubtedly had done more had he not made some of the choices he did.

Howard davis jnr should have achieved more...

Re: underacheivers
Believe it or not I consider Mike Tyson--even though he was the youngest Heavyweight champion of all time. I feel he could have been in the top 3 if he continued on the way he was before the first Bruno fight---when he started to become more of a standup slugger---and all that chaos.
Re: underacheivers
Tyson definitely. The Witherspoon who gave Holmes all he could handle could have had a much better career. Herol Graham - had he got the nod over McCallum, I'd have seen him beating all of McCallum's future opponents up to Toney at least. I kinda think Harold Brazier underachieved; he had massive talent, and with the backing of a good promoter, might have been a world champ.
Re: underacheivers
Naseem Hamed I always thought was a bit of an underachiever super talented but got lazy
Buster Douglas could have achieved more but was just never in love with boxing and was lazy
Roy Jones Jr is one of the most talented fighters I've ever seen but doesn't have the names on his record that someone as good as him should have.
Leon Spinks Olympic gold medal win over Ali then pretty much nothing
I don't know if I would consider him an underachiever or not but a James Toney that was more motivated and disciplined would of certainly achieved more.
