Where's the money going ??

The Froch v Groves fight is being promoted as a huge event. An expected 80,000 crowd at Wembley and goodness knows how many pay per view buys. Could it possibly sell 750,000. Lets say the live gate proceeds comes to around £8 million ( and average of £100 each given overall ticket prices, programmes etc) and the pay per view tops £10 million, it would be an incredible sum to come into boxing. So who gets the money ??? , and how much of it will go back into boxing ? and why is it that the only sport in this country to come under the 'pay per view' umbrella is boxing ??

There is expense and a degree of risk involved but I would imagine that SKY will make millions and Adam Smith will earn a huge bonus. Eddie Hearn will clear millions and Froch and Groves will never need to fight again to feed their families. So from approximately £18 million, less expenses, there's not a lot of people getting a share.

In other sports, football in particular, the money does filter down through the FA and the clubs to grass roots level, but in boxing, how can this possibly happen. I would like Adam Smith , Eddie Hearn , Carl Froch and George Groves to explain how they are going to spread some of the good news down to the people who made it possible for this to happen. I don't grudge anyone the right to earn, they've worked hard at promoting it ( is anyone else sick to the back teeth hearing about it on Ringside and reading it in Boxing News) but it is a huge amount of money being generated by boxing fans, casual or otherwise, and I'd like a little reassurance that some people are not laughing up their sleeves at us.

I don't really understand the post to be honest. You are paying to see an event, you aren't buying shares in Matchroom/Sky - to be honest it is none of our business where the money goes. We aren't forced to pay it, and you pay it solely to see the event.

I don't know much about the business of the sport. Some guys on here seem to know what they're talking about, so I'm open to being corrected. But I'm guessing that guys like Anthony Joshua and Luke Campbell are subsidised in the early years so they can live the lives of pro sportsman

The point of the post is this. There's dozens of small shows going on in the UK professionally and a lot more on the amateur circuit with people working hard for little reward keeping the sport alive, and doing so for decades. Almost all gyms are constantly struggling for cash. There's not a lot of money coming into boxing generally and many hundreds are struggling. When we have a one off event like this, due to boxing, there is something sticks in my throat, when I think of how a few people are going to earn such colossal amounts on the back of our sport and never having walked into a cold gym on a November night, discovered the pipes had burst, the electricity box had blown and a few heavy bags are on their last legs.

It's like saying WWE RAW should give a percentage of takings to kids who wrestle at high school.

These boxers have paid their dues, they have trained 12 weeks and had their faces bust wide open for what a footballer might earn in a single afternoon and in the reserves team.

This fight is the culmination of many years graft - from the age of 8 or so to this point.

And they are expected to give money away ?

To link boxing for even a millisecond to professional football is insane. It's like snakes and ladders, one loss and your earning 10% of what you earned previously if anything at all. In football they play under contract and play sh*t for years before they have to worry about pay cheques again.

Look at Andre Ward - he is regarded as the 2nd best right now in the entire sport.

He fought once in 2012 and one in 2013 - and has nothing lined up for this year and we are already in May.

Compare his riches to that of the 2nd highest paid footballer in the world right now. If he has 2.5% of that footballer's wealth I'd be amazed.

Cardiff City received £62,100,000 from tv revenue alone to finish bottom of the league and serve up dross.
How much of that "filters down" - come on.

No different to boxing.
Everybody has to start somewhere.
The market dictates the rate.
If 80,000 want to pay top dollar to see Froch and Groves get it on, and 750,00 households want to pay 16.95 to watch it from the comfort of their settee then why shouldn't the lads putting their heads through the ropes get rewarded handsomely ?
I don't begrudge them one penny.
I don't begrudge Eddie making a profit and I don't begrudge the broadcaster making their money.

I'm not talking about Froch and Groves earning their money, and by the way, I'm not suggesting for a minute that they should give something back. I'm talking about SKY Sports and particularly Eddie Hearn.

Months after the fight £18 million will have gone OUT of boxing into a few private pockets of people who have not served their time in boxing.

I would like SKY and Eddie to create a fund after this fight to support boxing at the grass roots. People could bid for grants and SKY and Eddie could give to those most worthy. That would send a message out that they are not selfish, greedy, money grabbers. To be fair I don't think Eddie Hearn is that type of person - lets see though.

No one deserves £288,000 a week after tax for kicking a ball around a field! And how is it fair that even average footballers earn £10,000 plus a week no matter if they play shit or if they don't play at all!? I still love football in it's purest form but they're killing it with the ridiculous wages yet pricing the working class out of their own sport with massively inflated ticket prices. Boxers on the other hand train much much harder, don't have 10 other men to rely on and if they have a bad night they might be getting KO'd not just subbed off!
