2016 #1 draft pick
2016 #1 draft pick
If Boxing had a draft like the Nba or Nfl, who would be projected to be The #1 draft pick in tne class 2016? Woukd it be Clemente Russo? He would be 34 I think in 2016 or how about a 2 time World Champion Shakur Stevenson who will only be 18 going on 19 in 2016. Or maybe the Cuban at 178 Cruz. Who would you pick if you are a professional promoter

DRAFT PICKS DON'T WORK IN PRO BOXING PROMOTERS GO BY WHICH FIGHTER IS POSSIBLE MONEY MAKER FOR THEM. NOT ALL PROMTERS GO AFTER SOME OF THESE AMATEURS. WHEN U CAN FIND A CANELO TYPE FIGHTER WITH REALLY NO AMATEUR BIG TIME EXPIERENCE BUT CAN FIGHT AND DRAW FANS MEANS MORE THAN ANY MEDAL U CAN WIN. FANS CAN MAKE U OR BREAK U EUROPIAN FIGHTERS DON'T HAVE THE FAN BASE NEEDED TO MAKE THE GREEN BACKS IN THE USA.

yup his the highest underage fighter i have on it, lots of very succesfulunderage fighters find it hard to make the step up to senior so until he is a senior its a bit difficult to judge his potentialscallum wrote:Be interesting to see how they progress. De La Cruz is an incredible boxer but his style isnt maybe for the pros and his been shaken before, also no one would watch him he makes rigo look aggresive, in saying that his still a first round pick becasue his the best boxer in all of amatuer boxingscallum wrote:I would personally pick de La Cruz , Stevenson, or Roberto Marton of Ukraine with the #1 pick all of them have proven they can win international Championships and have youth on thier sides

Re: 2016 #1 draft pick
Yes SStevenson hasnt won on Elite level yet. Robert Marton of Ukraine won Jr World Championships last year along with Stevenson. Actually I forgot the most dominant fighter from the class of 2016 will liklely be Claressa Shields, who at 21 years old in 2016 , could be sitting on 2 Olympics Gold Medalstflanagan5 wrote:De La Cruz is an incredible boxer but his style isnt maybe for the pros and his been shaken before, also no one would watch him he makes rigo look aggresive, in saying that his still a first round pick becasue his the best boxer in all of amatuer boxingscallum wrote:I would personally pick de La Cruz , Stevenson, or Roberto Marton of Ukraine with the #1 pick all of them have proven they can win international Championships and have youth on thier sides

Re: 2016 #1 draft pick
I see but you can see how senior success if a better indicator there plenty of great underage boxers who didn't do great as seniors eg.nanao Singh, magomed kurbanov, frank isla, Ray recio , Jamie kava agh etc
Shields is great but I think you will find that Katie Taylor is the most dominant amatuer in the world

Re: 2016 #1 draft pick
You think Taylor has more potential Than Shields? How old is Taylor? Im thinking more along the lines as to who is gonna be the most successful as a pro, which is hard to speculate. I wonder who would ve been #1 pick coming out of prior Olympic years like 1984 and 1976? I think Breland in 1984 , not sure 1976tflanagan5 wrote:I see but you can see how senior success if a better indicator there plenty of great underage boxers who didn't do great as seniors eg.nanao Singh, magomed kurbanov, frank isla, Ray recio , Jamie kava agh etc

Re: 2016 #1 draft pick
Like 27 and I doubt Taylor will go pro at this stage, she's dominated for 8+ years barely losing a fight in that time
76 would have been teofilo stevenson
80 probebly Stevenson again
84 breland
88 jones or lewis

still 178 and looks to be staying there
rock is still only an underage, and the was lucky to win that world youth final the german was just as big and atlhletic, we will see what he does when he gets to senior thats when you can properly judge potential
you have to remember at rocks age, Ward was already a world junior and youth champion, a european champion and had wins over world champion and furute olympic gold medelist egor mekhontsev
Re: 2016 #1 draft pick
I have seen Rock in Person, he is A freak of Nature. That Championship fight was not a good representation of his skills but still he is A current World Champion and he blew thru the rest of the best in the World at the World Championships. He had only about 30 total bouts before The Worlds, if he works hard and gets his weight down, lookouttflanagan5 wrote:scallum wrote:Have seen sum of Joe Ward earlier today on YouTube, he is good. him and the german were both evenly matched and are both good prospects i was going to put the german on my draft list too
he blew through the competition because super heavyweight is usually a very weak field are underage level, remember Joseph Dawejko won a youth super heavyweight title and is now a journeyman
you only really find out how good a super heavyweight is when he gets to senior

Its not just the Super Heavyweights but it seems the higher up in weight you go ,the less Athletic and Talented the fighters are. It seems the same in the pros. Dawjeko is like 5 ft 10 , maybe he would be much more successful at Cw. Gonna be interesting to see who progresses the most by late 2016
