If Ustinov comes in under 295 we can assume he is in decent shape based off of past fights. To my eye Fury certainly looks in better shape, but not the best shape he has ever been in when he was fighting Rogan, Johnson and Cunningham.

Fury looks in good nick; the love handles aren't too bad, and he looks solid and strong. Bowe was never a body beautiful, nor Holmes, and neither of them were too shabby, of course, they were in a different league skills wise, and far better athletes all round, but you catch my drift.

You always lose a lot of muscle and strength gettng ripped, clean or dirty (more so the former) - people find this concept hard to grasp but it's true. There are other advantages to carrying a bit of fat too.

Haye was ripped I guess, was Holyfield ripped? "Ripped" is probably not the best description actually, if we are looking for gay gym terms then these two were more "stacked" than anything, Holy especially ( but of course he was seemingly a big roider )

Fury is a lump and a half. He is indeed great value. Going to be involved in some humdingers and he will be a real highlight knockout for someone at some point.

I'm using the common vernacular. You're correct, of course, in true bodybulding terms they're never ripped. By the numbers, I personally don't think heavyweights should drop below genuine 10% bodyfat.

My dad was a big bloke, his belly was solid and cold after 12 pints of bitter. He wasnt ripped as such but kind of round like a big boil. He also had a long reach, I remember him being able to reach for a pint and still put 10p's in the fruit machine.

I'm not sure the moral here but im saying if a bigger man is stood on a step he looks bigger so you can imagine a big boxer staring at another boxer who is smaller, the smaller guy must be thinking hes going to get a slapping here.

Try to look beyond the jazz mag aesthetics. That used to be the domain of girls and gays. A 6'9" guy with an 85"+ reach has not got an 'average body'.

A lot of boxers who i'd consider in good shape dont have 'bodybuilder' type bodies anyway. They have a decent amount of lean muscle mass although not too much and they have a low body fat % although not too low. Froch is a guy that always looks in tremendous condition to me but yet he's not hugely muscular by any stretch. A boxer IMO with the amount of cardio, etc that goes into it shouldnt be fat or have love handles. God knows how John Mcdermott looks the way he does. He must have a shitty training regime or eat non stop when he's not training.
