HBO Jim Lampley's suggested thatFroch is scared of Golovkin

Post by big lennox »

And while Froch didn’t seem eager to mix with Golovkin when asked during a Facebook Q&A in May, his reticence did provide the network a final chance to stoke the promotional blaze before signing off.

“Just swerve Golovkin like the plague. He punches like a mule,” read the HBO graphic, subsequently framed by Jim Lampley as a bald-faced avoidance. “I don’t need to be in with him. Dangerous fight.”

I thought when Froch said this he was being quite light hearted. How can Jim Lampley say someone that has been in with big punchers like Bute, Kessler (twice), Groves twice) and Abraham and taken the best they had to offer would avoid a middleweight. For my money Froch would beat Golovkin.

Yes, it was disingenuous.

I would love to see Froch-GGG too.

Clearly Froch wasn't being serious. Even if he was actually scared of GGG (which I'm 100% sure he isn't), he wouldn't just come out and say it.

Golovkin would do serious damage to Froch. Froch is too tough to just go down so he would get a severe beating which would be rather uncomfortable to watch.

Oh, I would swim. it is fascinating because Froch is one of the only fighters on the planet who will stand up to the power of GGG.

I just think at this time of his career, Froch will want a payday against someone like Chavez. And to be fair, he has earned the right to make that decision

What makes me hesitant to agree with a dominant GGG win is that he often relies on pushing opponents back and trapping them in corners or on the ropes, and I can see him struggling to bully Froch in that way. Additionally, while his power is impressive at MW it hasn't been proven at SMW and it's not untypical for fighters' power not to carry up, as was the case with Arthur Abraham. That and Froch's durability could offset GGG's power to some extent and force him to win based on other qualities that he doesn't posses in such great amounts.

Wouldn't be able to go, but it's the only potential fight involving Froch in Vegas that I'd pay PPV for.

You always hear fighters saying after moving up in weight(usually after a loss) that their happy to be moving up as they'll have more of a dig but that does seem to be a bit of a myth, usually the opposite

True, but Golovkin's power is exceptional, I'd be amazed if it didn't carry up.

I imagine that he'd still be a puncher at 168, but possibly not the the type he is at 160.

He looks a devastating banger against fringe world class opposition at middleweight.

Fighting Froch at 168 is a whole different game though. I wouldn't be so sure GGG emerges from such a fight victorious.

Golovkin is too technically good for Froch but his ideal weight is middleweight and he should stay there and clean up.

I've no doubt Froch would fight Golovkin.

Right now though his fan base is very limited. We all know he's the bollocks (so far anyway) but the masses are still only just starting to take notice. There isn't any PPV money there stateside for him. It's frustrating but Chavez Jr has a boat load of hispanic fans and I'm sure I read his fight with the unheralded Brian Vera broke viewing records for a non-PPV fight.

Carl could do double the money for half the risk - and tick that Vegas box.

My fear is a 38-year veteran Froch in 2015 , whom has achieved so much already, might probably be retiring or winding-down by the time the GGG fight is probably coming to the boil.

For selfish reasons I crave to see it though, like everyone else.

Carl has been hit absolutely flush by people like Kessler, Pascal, Groves etc - and still coming right back fighting. Does GGG honestly hit 50% harder than them lot? I can't believe it's possible myself but hey ho, be fun if he can ! (not for Carl though)

I wouldn't say that Geale and Macklin were only fringe world class, though admittedly it's not the strongest division.

Ya, I can understand that and I wonder if he's slowing already. Heading into the first fight with Groves the latter was generally seen as an easy win, yet after that bout he turned into a world class fighter in many eyes. I can see the basis for that, but there's also the possibility that Froch struggled with a guy who is probably not much better than initially thought, and the nature of the bouts is more explainable by Froch's decline than Groves being better than expected. I suspect that it's some of each.

On what basis? GGG looks devastating against decent MWs and all of a sudden some think that he'd destroy a world class SMW who's famous for having a fantastic chin? And what's to say GGG could stand up to Froch's heavy hands? I think it would be a really competitive fight and tough to call.

it would be a great fight but frochs toughness would cause him to take some big shots ,look at the right hands groves bounced of his head and groves isn't considered a real banger unlike GGG ,i don't think anyone is thinking it wouldn't be a great fight but for frochs health it could be very bad

I understand all that. My point is, do you not think there's a slight chance you're overrating GGG at SMW especially considering he hasn't actually fought a truly world class fighter at MW??

you could be right i don't think GGG hits as hard as julian jackson and i don't think he's unbeatable by a long way and froch could well out muscle him but i don't think the jump from middle to supermiddle is a massive jump in weight or size .
this could be another tyson vs holyfield where people was scared for evander before hand and we all know what happened there

I think Golovkins power would carry up just fine. He apparently gave Kovalev a good hiding in sparring (I know, I know sparring is sparring) and the crusher sure can bang. Golovkins isn't just hard hitting, he is DESTRUCTIVE.

I think if Froch thought him next he would have a very good chance.

if he leaves it any longer then it stacks massively in GGG favour

I cant afford another vegas mission this year.. but get it on for April and im all over it
