I think that's what they said. I can't see any dates set though. :witzend:

I wouldn't be surprised if they set it up at short notice, being that they know what the fight is going to be already. They're probably waiting for Channel 5 to decide which hole in the schedule they want to fill.

On a side note, I notice Kid Galahad is fighting on Channel 5 the same night that George Groves is fighting at Wembley.

Was thinking the same myself. If its on the Galahad bill I would have thought it would be showing. If not I would have thought they would have a date by now.
My guess is that Ch5 are dragging their heels on a date.

Channel 5 are a bit odd. They announced they weren't going to be showing any more at all a few months ago, then announced a new tournament they were going to start showing. Now it's time for the final, they aint arsed any more. :o

Joking aside, I have no problem with Channel 5 showing fights like this in venues like this.

Granted it looks a bit odd when the commentators are trying to push a fighter as a fight or two away from a genuine world title shot, and they're fighting some also-ran in a shopping mall.

But it should occur to them that they haven't got the budget to put on huge World Title fights, but they have got the budget to put on small town hall shows. So why not use that and put on 50/50 British and European title fights? I've quite enjoyed watching Galahad's British and European title adventures on Five, and this MultiNutrion thingy has provided some decent scraps.

Watching a 50/50 fight where both boxers are giving it their all is always more entertaining than watching Tyson Fury lay the smack down on some 57 year old cruiserweight whilst the commentators act like he's beaten a prime Muhammad Ali.

The size of the venue doesn't really matter if you're watching a decent fight.

Well, that's what I was wondering. But on checking Boxrec, the fights aren't listed as being on any date. Maybe they're just waiting to confirm.

In all honesty, I was just winding you up because it was DeGale and I knew you wanted him fighting big venues. I didn't really give a monkeys where he was fighting.

Besides, by 'fights like this', I meant 50/50 scraps between domestic level/European level fighters rather than DeGale fighting a journeyman.

I enjoy watching decent scraps between up and coming guys giving it their all for a British title or European title. That doesn't have to be at the 02 or the MEN for me to enjoy it, it could be at a leisure center or sports hall, if the fight is decent. That's my point really.

need the bigger venues to get the decent opponents though.

that's hennessy's problem.

meaty mick will play the ratings game with kid galahad.

then end up fighting frampton in front of boxrec and his dog on buncenation.

Frampton will always box in front of big crowds. He'll have massive tv audiences in Ireland, too.

I think you're kind of missing my point.

I wasn't saying that every single card or every single fight should be held in a small hall. I wasn't implying that Froch vs Groves should've held in a leisure centre or anything.

More that small hall shows can be entertaining. The Multi Nutrition tournament isn't going to sell out the MEN arena, because the participants aren't household names. But they've provided decent fights, on free-to-view television, so getting snooty that the participants aren't famous enough to sell out big arena seems like moaning for no reason.

That's the difference. Using your example of DeGale. If somebody who we are being told is at a level where he should be fighting for world titles, and is being touted as a genuine challenger for Froch, but is fighting journeymen in a shopping mall then people will see it as a dissapointment.

Bob Ajisafe vs Leon Senior is not at that level, but was a good fight with a controversial ending provided on free-to-air television. Complain about the ending, but not that it was in Leeds Town Hall.

Leeds Town Hall is one of the best venues in the country.

I think people are really, really missing my point here. I'm not dissing Leeds Town Hall. (It looked beautiful on the telly actually.)

I get your point. The Town Hall is stunning, atmospheric and placed for just about everything you need in the middle of a massive city. It was the late, great Harry Mullan's favourite venue in the early 90's. It will hold around 2,000 so not THAT small.

It looked stunning on television. And if it's well placed all the better.

Some sporting venues I've been to that are supposed to be brilliant end up being shite because they're so far out of the way of anything. The Ally Pally is like that. The nearest pub/McDonalds/tube station/anything you might actually want to use is a 20-odd minute walk away (or a bus ride away). And it's not quite as atmospheric as everybody says it is.

Much rather be somewhere nice looking that is convenient for everything.

I have been to Leeds Town to watch boxing numerous times & it is a great venue. I was there to watch this & this card was probably the best small hall bill I have been to a few years.

Cant see that as that is the same date as Josh Warrington & Ricky Burns fight at Leeds Arena on Sky. This is channel 5 so to have 2 bills in the same city on the same night would be madness!

Hennessy shows and matchroom shows always happen on the same night, won't be at the same area it will be at in somewhere in London or at the blue water.
