Matchroom show Manchester Sept 13

Post by Andrew »

Announced today Crolla against Gamaliel Diaz

http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer

Poor fight this been stopped in two if last three and they were at super feather. Still curious as to why Henry Lundy said he had the fight.............

Scott Quiggs opponent not named yet but just I'm hoping is isn't like the last two Liverpool shows as I went to the last Manchester show and it was really good

Cardle v Kirk Goodings for the English on this bill too Goodings got a chance ?? Not seen him fight.

Card announced Paulus Ambunda is the guy facing Quigg. Last lost to Kameda ( who by the way is an awesome fighter ) however I have noticed he went 12 with Prado who Quigg destroyed after a while out of the ring.

Also noticed Denton Vassell has his first fight since losing to Frankie Gavin. Its against Sam Eggington in a british title eliminator !!!

Got to say some serious balls from Eggington there

Quigg and Crolla's opponents are shit

Eggington v Vassell is a good fight though (atleast theres one well matched fight on this Matchroom card, one more than the last). Vassell will start favourite I'm sure but I've got a feeling Eggington will shock many here! Hope I'm right

Whilst I expected the contrary, Quigg's opponent isn't shit. But it isn't a thrilling matchup.

Miles better than Arenas who was mentioned.

Will be interesting how this one sells the last show only got decent sales due to Murray v Crolla.

I think Paulus Moses would have been good for Crolla to make it a final eliminator for the WBO belt (No 2 v No 4).

Best chance Anthony has of winning a world title is the WBO as long as Crawford vacates and moves up a weight which is expected

World title bout label aside, Quigg-Ambunda is an okay fight. Not good but okay.

Diaz was a title holder a few bouts ago, which I'm sure will be brought up continuously along with mentions of his win over Robert Guerrero, but he seems well off that form and has fought mainly at 130 and 126. I expect Crolla to win fairly handily, though it could be fun as even in defeat Diaz has enjoyed his moments, though again that was below 135 and in better days.

Enough to sell out? Any idea if they are opening the entire arena for this one?

Just watched Diaz against Muira and I think he may go all out early against Crolla. Anthony isn't a massive puncher so I won't be surprised if this is a shutout or wide UD.

Diaz took a lot of punishment from Muira who looks to carry solid power in his left from the southpaw stance ( will certainly be testing Stephen Smiths chin if that fight happens)

Watched Ambunda v Kameda I think Quigg should beat him in 6 no problem. The only success he had was in spurts where Kameda was happy to stand and trade but Kameda just landed double the shots in exchanges. No way will Ambunda come off best trading with Quigg. Also you will see a significant size difference between the two come fight night plus Quigg hits a lot harder than Kameda ( though nowhere near as fast )

Bookies odds will be very clear on how on sided these fights are.

Hearn done it again!!! Another quality card full of 50/50 fights!!!
Shite like this should be on his new fight pass thing. Anyone else sick of Hearns showcase cards? He becoming famous for them. Real fans want to see 50/50 fights and Hearns last couple of cards since Wembley have been crap.

Though Diaz, despite his honourable world-level gatekeeper career, is out of his weight division, & has taken a hell of a lot of punishment over the years. I don't think he makes the final bell, & is being brought over to flatter Crolla.

Miura's well worth watching. Hittable, but fast & aggressive & a fvcking Exocet of a left cross. His fight with Yeyo Thompson was a war, & his loss to Uchiyama was also an excellent fight.

The main event is piss poor everyone agrees but he undercard is decent,Crolla is no world beater and couldn't beat Matthews or Sykes just because Gallagher talks big and says Crolla is world class doesn't mean he is and he could lose to Diaz,it would not surprise me.Eggerton-Vassell is 50-50 and Gooding-Cardle is decent. The Glasgow card was decent and two of his fighters lost so no one could say that was a showcase card,I will give you the Liverpool one that really was a showcase card

Eggington and Vassell is a good fight.

Other than that, not a great deal to start sh**tting yer pants about. A piss poor bill to kick the 'season' off for Sky.

Eggington - Vassell could be a cracker so fair play

Quigg and Crolla's opponents are almost a scandal IMO especially as they weren't forced on Eddie due to last minute pullouts or anything but oh well

First I've heard of Eggington getting thrown in with Vassell?! Wow. I don't really understand the logic in throwing him so deep, so soon but it should be a cracking fight. Really looking forward to Kirk Goodings finally getting the chance to show his ability on the big stage as well - he was involved in the fight of the night on the Hall/Ward bill & it didn't even get televised.

In truth, not got much interest at all in the Quigg or Crolla fights but doubtlessly I'll be watching anyway.

Not a Matchroom fighter is he just works with them a bit lately so if he loses they'll just shut him off if he was an actual Matchroom fighter no way they'd match him against Vassell yet.

Ironic arguably the best matched fight of a Matchroom card and neither are with Matchroom.

Hes in the home corner an getting lots of notice sams happy with that.
Won and defneded the midlands no nobody will fight him for it
Won an english elminator and the english champ just flat out refused to fight him
Has had a couple of warm up fights and said hes not intersted in those kind of fights.
This is a bit early but he just wants to fight proper fights and is prepared to take a gamble to get his name in the mix

I wasn't knocking Sam or yourself Jon (I've been to a couple of Sams fight and would have loved to come up to this supporting him but prior engagement) its very commendable from his and your point of view and I believe everyone should be happy to take these gambles.

My point was if he was actually a Matchroom fighter (which I hope thats something this leads to for him) would they be willing to take the gamble? I'd say no.

Alll the best with it I've got a feeling he/you may actually pull it off!

Call me crazy but if Diaz isn't completely shot/shopworn, I think he makes it competitive vs Crolla who is by no means a big lightweight. I mean it wasn't that long ago Diaz won the WBC superfeatherweight title from a Japanese fighter, in Japan. No mean feat.
