Scott Quigg's next opponent.....

Post by keirw »

According to boxrec schedule he will be facing Jhonatan Arenas on the 13th September.
He is 17/1 with 11 KOs and is from Panama.
I like Quigg, but he should be facing better opposition than this.

We've gone over this elsewhere. It isn't his next opponent.

In saying that, I'm not holding out high hopes and his opponents since the Salinas fight haven't been good enough at all.

Should be Shingo Wake if he's fit.

Is that genuinely who it could be? If so then that is definitely a decent opponent. I'll wait for the official announcement tho.

Wishful thinking on my behalf as opposed to "Eddie is about to announce it"

Best possible opponent that isn't already booked in to a bout (barring Rigo who we know Quigg won't touch with a barge pole). Problem is Wake fought about a week ago against Jaesung Lee though he did announce his next fight would be a world title bout

Last I heard Santa Cruz still has no opponent for September, maybe Wake is in line for that?
I'd be quite happy with Quigg vs Wake but can't see Eddie taking any risks with Quigg's 0 with a potential Frampton fight later this year, or early next

Beating guys you haven't heard of =/=ain't better than the guys Quigg has been beating

He's ranked high due to wins over Baat, Oguni (highly ranked at the time having beaten Gasca, himself highly ranked) and Lee amongst others.

Though, of course, you've only looked at his records and not actual footage...so I guess it's a moot point regardless...

Had a look at Shingo there vs oguni looks tasty enough looked very tired though good fight for Quigg if it happens think Quigg would be a bit strong for him lookin at that but who knows

He's been "World Champ" now for 2 of 3 fights, He has to stop fighting these C level fighters.

If Quigg wants to be the WBA champ he needs to fight Rigondeaux.

Scott's a good lad and a top fighter but deep down he will know he is not a proper world champion.

Thing is Eddie has not delivered since Salinas with Quigg.

I was expecting Martinez in April but he went to Japan then when a September date was mention I thought that would be Kiko but then he agreed to the Frampton rematch which Eddie said was never going to happen.

In fairness the original opponent for April, Cremaro I think, looked decent on paper but didn't wet the appetite like a Kiko fight would have.

Me neither but if it is Wake then it is definitely one of the best available opponents.

Worrying thing is an announcement has been put back well over a week now. Tickets we're due on sale today. Remember Hearn tweeting about just waiting on the contracts to be signed but there's obviously been problems so not expecting someone I've even heard off now tbh.

He's said 'just waiting on contracts before' with Porter and Smith when there were evidently no problems. He has said he doesn't like to announce until these things are absolutely signed sealed and done.

But yeah like you, I certainly am not expecting an opponent of Wake's calibre. I think I'd settle for someone top20 with boxrec and the IBO computerised ratings.

Another bum for Quigg
Pretty disgraceful considering the amount of quality fighters operating in the division.

Hearn is banking on Frampton/McGuigan throwing them a bone and taking the fight so he'll keep lining up these bums until if/when they get the big fight

God I thought you'd gone. Not announced yet sweetheart. Though I tend to agree with you.
