Stevenson vs Brähmer Discussion

Post by PsychoGamer »

Stevenson said he's fighting Brähmer on 27th September. Who wins & how?

I wouldn't underestimate the german, he's got some iron chin, and will go the distance. Himself he has some power, but i don't think Stevenson will get knocked out though. This one will go the distance.

Brähmer would've beaten Hopkins instead of Murat on 26/10/13... second best fight he can get. Or should he fight Caparello?

I think Stevenson would/will chin him. Will be a competitive fight whilst it lasts i think though as Braehmer has pretty decent boxing ability himself.

I'd say Stevenson by late fight stoppage.

But I'm hoping for a huge Brahmer win. :TU:

My nerd-rage is directed at the machinations of the powerful who continue to fvck the sport over, preventing one of the most logical, interesting & exciting fights in boxing (Kovalev-Stevenson, in case you need it spelling out, which I assume from your obtuseness you do).

I mentioned Kovalev's next opponent to further point up the enormous gulf between what we're getting & what we should've got. So you can stick your wounded nationalism, ta, because I wasn't dissing Braehmer, who, truth be told, ain't all that.

I have to admit that im a fan of stevenson as a fighter (stylistically) and actually prefer him to Kovalev in that sense but im not happy with the way things have gone since he's gone with Haymon .... HOWEVER from a cynical perspective it could be seen as quite smart what's happening now as either Hopkins or Kovalev are going to be taken out of the equation and he's going to only have to fight the winner now. It's clever but as a fan i dont like it.

Won't happen. When, exactly, has Braehmer ever stepped up and taken a challenge against a legitimate belt-holder? He's twice won "vacant" paper belts and lost at home the only time he actually challenged a light heavyweight beltholder for a title (Garay 2008). Fighting a former cruiserweight who had been knocked out six times previously (Maccarinelli) was considered a big step up for Braehmer. Also, is Stevenson going to Germany? Because Brahmer isn't leaving Germany

Umm... Stevenson would've getting knocked out by Kovalev & would lose a UD against Hopkins. ( the Fonfara one )

Both fights, Kovalev-Hopkins & Stevenson-Brähmer are better/ more competitive than Kovalev-Stevenson.

Against the 'Murat-Hopkins' he would have won a UD or MD. Murat was getting played with in the 2nd half, Brähmer wouldn't let him do this. Brähmer is also physically bigger than Murat, Hopkins wouldn't shove him around.

I don't think it's that interesting or exciting. Kovalev would beat the brakes off Adonis. Interesting is Ward/Kovalev.

Assuming the best outcome out of all of this would be...Stevenson is preparing himself for the winner of Hopkins vs. Kovalev

I like this fight, more from Braehmer's point of view as i see most of his fights these days and he's a quality operator whose operating on shite mostly so its good to see him in with a live opponent for a change, also a southpaw and awkward so i think Stevenson will need to use more of a thinking gameplan to exploit Juergen but also try and rough him up on the inside as he's a bit of a whinger is Braehmer and can be rattled, but when it comes to skills i think Braehmer can hold his own with Adonis

For me this is Stevenson's toughest defence yet

Just remembered this is gonna be billed as a unification fight is it

Good post.....there's always been a bit more to Braehmer than meets the eye. Yup, he's properly moody git who has had plenty of career breaks due to being a regular down at his local nick or courthouse, but he can defnitely fight and I don't think he'll allow himself to get teed-up for Stevenson's bombs and he has a far cooler head and tactical nous than Bellew. Braehmer has got the stance, technical know-how and physicality to be a problem for Stevenson. Might be interesting.

Stevenson seems to be underrated in the boxing department by some though. He's not just a big puncher.

Exactly.
When Braehmer was supposed to fight Cleverly he got vagina pains and kept putting off the fight until the sanctioning body finally stripped him.
He's not going to fight Stevenson.

Rumors in Montreal is that GYM and Stevenson will go to purse bid with Jean Pascal promotion for a fight in december. Purse bid because Pascal is mandatory and is to hard in negociation and Adonis ' s promoter want thing to go easy and guaranty 70% of he money to the champion.
Maybe the Brahmer rumors are to put pressure on Jean Pascal who is got nothing ahead.
Stevenson still fight at the end of september.

Since winning his belt it is starting to appear that Adonis has no interest in facing the other top light heavyweights.

He jumped networks knowing it would send a fight with Kovalev down the drain.
Put off signing a fight with Hopkins knowing he was under pressure to get a fight signed or be stripped by the IBF...................that strategy worked, Hopkins took a different fight.
Now they want an unrealistic purse split with Pascal. 50/50 with Pascal is probably going to be more money than any other available opponent but it seems they would rather focus on the path of least resistance for less money than take a risk for more money.

The names being mentioned. Go right down the list too...

Isaac Chilemba would be a great test for Stevenson. Issac last fought on Aug 2. Plus that Issac is ranked #2 by the WBC.

Good fight. Stevenson gets the decision IMO but with my Euro hat on I'd be hoping Brahmer could pull it off.

If the powers that be insist on putting off the fight that everyone wants to see then at least this one will be interesting in the meantime.

This is why i said the Brahmer rumor maybe use to put pressure on him. Pascal turned down 2millions $ to fight Cloud for a 50k different with GYM. Maybe 30% of a fight with Stevenson is better than nothing when you consider you get a legetimate shot at becoming world champion again and then have the better option. Pascal still has nothing ahead and Stevenson is already schedule at the end of september and he will probably sign for another fight for december.. Money talks

He doesn't have a choice. He's the mandatory challenger. If they can't agree on money it will go to the purse bid and he will only get 30%. That's the rule.

He's not in a good position to ask for more money on this one.
