Thanks for that info.

Liebenberg moves up to 16-0 with 11 KO's.
Boxrec shows he already has a fight lined up in about 2 months time, in October.

I see Kevin Lerena on the undercard also won against Marcos Antonio Ahumada.

I originally started follow Liebenberg because Ryno "The Lion" has to be one of the best first name to nickname ratios in boxing. I see some really good stuff from him. This was a good win. I think he can become a top ten guy, even in this pretty stiff division.

He is... he was a top gatekeeper but now is amongst the average gatekeeper. IMO the cards didn't reflect the fight though. It was closer

I always respect your opinion, TheBeast. What do you think of Ryno?

He is a tough kid. It was the first time i seen him box from the backfoot and he looked pretty good doing so although he didn't move when under fire... Again he is tough, because he absorbed lots of punishment and stayed composed and remained in the game. A little like vs Mueller... he had went down brutally but got back up, regrouped and stopped him. He is tough and that will carry him far but in the end he lacks some important skills. And moving under fire is one of them. He was able to take all Grachev threw but won't work that way vs tougher opposition. So far he looks decent offensively and his pop was effective against pretty much all his opponents... except Grachev and that pushed him out of his confort zone... on the backfoot, back against the ropes. He did not bad and it was a good learning experience. But i'd like to see a more dynamic footwork defensively... that would help him a lot at higher levels.

Thanks!! :TU:

Pretty much lines up with how I felt about him. I haven't seen the Grachev fight yet, so I will be interested to see him off the back foot. He definitely seems to shell up from time to time defensively.

As mentioned, Boxrec has him down for another fight on the 25th October in Monte Carlo for the WBC Silver Lightheavy.

Are there any indications or ideas who his opponent will be?

Insane... Grachev has been 12-0 with 8 KO's, after knocking out Sillakh. Then it went downwards... five fights, four losses. And the win against Erdei wasn't really a win. :o

And I thought he beat Erdei, though it was very close.

The increase in losses is not surprising given that his opposition has improved though. The only result that surprised me was the blowout loss to Rodriguez.

On some related news, it appears as if Grachev will probably fight Tommy Oosthuizen next.
The article below alludes to the problems Oosthuizen was experiencing outside the ring, and intimates that these issues are still ongoing, or the demons haven't been put to rest yet.
A pity, as Oosthuizen had a lot of potential...

Still Grachev gets another bite at the cherry.
His performance was actually quite good against Liebenberg. He didn't lose for the lack of trying...
In the wake of his successful “Silver Salvo” event at Emperors Palace, promoter Rodney Berman is planning an intriguing light-heavyweight fight for November: Tommy Oosthuizen against Denis Grachev.

Oosthuizen has been on the outer for the past nine months, a combination of indiscipline and poor career choices impeding his progress. Private discussions have been recently held between Berman and Harold Volbrecht, Oosthuizen’s manager-trainer, with an agreement to bring the fighter back in November.

But doing so comes with a huge proviso: Oosthuizen must get his act together. Indeed, recent months have been marked by disturbing reports of bad behaviour, not to speak of his vacillating weight.Berman has shown extraordinary patience in dealing with the problem child of SA boxing, but even by his standards of tolerance, he must be close to breaking point.

That said, the prospect of Oosthuizen against Grachev excites him. “I’ve worked with Grachev on a couple of fights. He’s an absolute pro, a real warrior, as we saw against Ryno Liebenberg the other night. He will come hard at Tommy and be in his face. For me, it’s a pick ’em fight that could go either way. Tommy could easily lose if he doesn’t prepare properly. It is up to him to get into shape.”

Grachev lost fair and square, but Berman was perturbed by the scorecard of Nigeria’s Lateef Muiss, who had Liebenberg winning every round. He believes that Grachev won at least four rounds and deserved credit for his role in such an absorbing fight.“He deserves to be invited back and I look forward to working with him.”

Of course, this fight builds nicely towards a potential Oosthuizen-Liebenberg superfight in 2015. Assuming both remain undefeated, the value in such a contest could become massive.

Oosthuizen’s popularity has waned in the wake of his poor behaviour and lack of action. Liebenberg, in turn, has done it all right and has overtaken Oosthuizen in the public’s mind.

Alvarez would win with his faster hands and better mobility.

Grachev will also win vs Oosthuizen who looked pretty bad recently

So it's Ryno Liebenberg vs Eileider Alvarez in Monaco on the 25th October?

It'll be both these guys first fight otside their home or based countries.

I see boxrec still has him listed for a fight in between in September...

Liebenberg v Oosthuizen would be tasty if Tommy watns to get himself sorted...I think they are both from the Jo'burg area and Ryno is with Colin Nathan and Tommy with Vorbrecht.

Rodney Berman has got some good things going on with Ryno, Murray and Budler on his books. Oosthuizen also shows up on the Golden Gloves website so if he wants to get himself back the fight with Ryno could be made.

Yes, I see that Hekkie Budler vs Zhong for the WBA and IBO titles, and middleweights Martin Murray vs Domenico Spada are also on the same card as Liebenberg vs Alvarez in Monaco.

EDIT: Also features Randy Caballero vs Stuart Hall for the IBF bantamweight belt.

Looks like a good show.
