He was pretty much retired, it is clear that he doesn't have it mentally now or in the past. For me he narrowly beat Froch and who knows what might have been if the decision was he way. Wasted talent.
His technique does look very basic sometimes, but I wouldn't rate him from his last fight, he didn't really have to do much to win that one there.
Even if you think his technique is nothing special or that he's not there mentally, he has other attributes that can carry him to a few title shots, such as his speed, power(not a big puncher, but alot of leverage) and athleticism.
I think he has more than enough of those things alone to accomplish more in boxing, that's why people consider him one of the most physically gifted fighters in his division.
The guy can slip and counter effectively as well too, and he makes everyone he fight look like they are moving slow as hell.
But yeah, i agree with you guys that its possible his best fights are already behind him.
