Vitali Klitschko's career

Post by Kaaspeer »

Klitschko is a cool guy and he was definitely a good boxer. Which 5 wins do you consider to be his best ones and in which order?

1: Corrie Sanders, who had just beat Wladimir by KO. No doubt the best win.
2: Lennox Lewis (okay, he lost this one, fair and square, but he gave a very good fight when it lasted).
3: Dereck Chisora (underrated and Vitali fought him with a broken shoulder)
4: I don't know, there are simply too many great victories to choose from.

I'm starting to think most thread creators are trolling instead of trying to have a genuine discussion.

I think Hide prepared for Vitali like the prized pillock he is. Any number of heavies would have done a number on him in that fight. Vitali's best win was probably coming back from a long layoff to defeat Peter.

I don't think I've ever seen the current scene in a worse state. And I've been here since the site started

:TU: This site was ace back in the early 2000s. Lots of knowledgeable and hilarious posters. I do think the median age of your typical poster has probably gone down which explains some of it. The state of boxing overall has also gone well downhill.

i think aging makes the view nostalgic. i don't
think this was a bad decade for boxing at all.

arguably it was not a strong field at heavy, but
the division came out of a decade with real and
solid hw-legends all around, which made the
weakness look worse than it actually was.

Good call, Hide seemed to excel at fighting like a demi-god when he just needed to get the job done and then half-training and fighting like a muppet when it mattered. Vitali was still properly green in that fight in London with just his size, brute strength and power to rely upon but Herbie (dumbly) decided to try and bully him and make it a who owns the centre of the ring duel. Feckin' stupid stuff but Hide probably had not done any tactical homework or training and got starched as a result.

Just as an aside....I began to think Vitali was worth the candle when he bounced right back after the Lewis fight by taking on Kirk Johnson. OK, Johnson was not super-special, but going straight back in with a rated, decent contender at Madison Square and doing a proper number on him definitely earned my respect. That performance, when Johnson was properly spanked, showed that Vitali was not the typical, stay at home, over protected Euro heavyweight.

Another worthless thrread spent bashing a guy who just happened to be too good for his era. It's not his fault this era is when he was born. You cant invent opponents for a guy that dont exist.

I'm not bashing Vitali and after having researched Herbie Hide, I see that Vitali truly got a great resume.

You're giving yourself away. You can't be a proper boxing fan until you watched at least ten Hide fights on a live broadcast.

No kidding, it's hilarious

By heavyweight champion standards, Vitali's resume is certainly not a shining beacon. His brother's resume looks fantastic compared to his, and that's saying something.

Wlad did not go running for office or Vitali would've beaten the same types of guys as well. Haye. Povetkin. Etc.

Vitali looked especially slow and shaky in his last few bouts. I think Haye would've had a very good chance of beating him had they fought around the time Vitali retired.

What are you gibbering about?
Vitali wasn't running for office when Wlad beat Haye or Povetkin!

Oh really? Vitali was not only IN office from late 2012 to mid 2014 but running for office for quite some time before then. Get your facts straight. Wlad fought Povetkin late 2013. So you are obviously wrong and are you seriously f'n insinuating Vitali wouldnt have beaten David Haye or ANY of the guys Wlad has beaten? Dont be silly. Of course he would've.

Not an office significant enough that he retired from boxing to pursue.
Pacquiao is in office, that matters how?

Vitali was the MAYOR of the largest city in Ukraine. Kiev. Not significant enough for you I suppose.

He retired because he was getting old and wanted to run for office. Nobody was going to care about him beating any of the current heavyweights. Except you maybe? He wouldve gotten the same credit for beating the guys Wlad did as Wlad has gotten. No credit at all, so what you are gibbering about?

I'm suggesting that he may not have beaten Haye from 2012 on. He was notably declining and didn't have his brother's speed, power, or footwork, which I believe were all significant factors in the win over Haye.

Vitali is currently the mayor (doesn't have to be capitalised!) of Kiev. He was a member of the Ukrainian parliament during the period of time we were discussing.
