Brook, Khan, Clev v Bellew set for Dec 6th

Post by earsjohn »

Story in the Telegraph (sorry can't seem to post links from my phone) this morning that Dec 6th in Sheffield will feature a first defence for Kell alongside Khan with Cleverly v Bellew 2.

This is to set up a big Wembley clash in May next year. Also says that its looking like Froch v DeGale at the O2 next year.

Surprised they're all rolled into one show.

Unless it's PPV.

Looks like they are trying to make a ppv out of it, individually none of the fights qualify but all together it may work, though I will wait until Khan and Brooks opponents are announced before I get too exited

It'll most certainly be PPV if that line up is confirmed.

Fair play if Froch takes on Degale. I honestly thought he would retire unless he got his big Vegas night and i believe Degale will beat him handily.

I also think Degale gives him things to think about. But Froch's right hand will fight the spot repeatedly - I think Degale gets halted after a decent start.

National newspapers aren't exactly known for their boxing news to be fair, I read an article in one a few weeks back that mentioned Carl Froch's recent victory over 'James Groves' (whoever that is), so I wouldn't put too much faith in what they say

Brook vs Thurman/Broner/Bradely/Marquez
Bellow vs Cleaverly
Smith vs Fielding
Joshua for British title

The above card makes it PPV worth. Anything else and your being greedy hearn.

Another point........Mayweather fights again in May. Why does Hearn think Khan would fight Brook in the summer over Mayweather? All this talk from Hearn about building the fight up for next summer, but if they don't fight each other in December the fight wont happen till late next year at the earliest or early 2016. Can anyone really see Khan saying no to Mayweather to fight Brook next summer??? All the talk from Hearn about winner takes on mayweather is rubbish, first off Brook has no chance of landing that fight and secondly khan cant fight in September/October (when floyd traditionally fights his 2nd fight of the year) because of his religion. Anyone else have another view on this?

Jeez Brook will have some first defence fighting 4 guys in the same night!

Not sure about it being PPV but it may have to be to cover the pay expectations for the fighters. Ill go to the pub if it is!

Khan would much rather fight Brook than Mayweather IMO. Its a fight he has more chance of winning and its a bigger payday than against Mayweather.

Don't believe that "exclusive". Bellew v Cleverly won't be in Sheffield, Khan has a fight left on allegedly.

Nothing will ever beat Groves' face live on SSN after being asked 'Khan? Fancy it?' Priceless.

You can't pick pocket Carl you need to beat him up and have more skill. Not one, or the other, but both of those things.

Andre Ward didn't beat Froch up. And Andre Dirrell (who many consider beat Froch) barely touched Carl, let alone beat him up.

Brook will face an Argy fighter in a walk over victory and Clev v Bellew 2 - does anyone really care about it? And Joshua on screen for 5 minutes.. Well worth £17-£18 nicker!

Ward beat Froch in every department, the cards were a joke - Froch wasn't fiddled out of the fight, he was beaten fair and square.

Hearn needs to get Brook exposed to the public and casual fans as much as possible in preparation for a possible Khan fight next year - sticking him on PPV now because he has a belt is really not going to work IMO.

Can't see Brook fighting anybody of that calibre. They are all too dangerous for a homecoming first defence/Khan build up fight.

Looking down the IBF rankings should give us a better idea - Ionut Dan Ion, Bundu, Bizier, Abregu, Chaves etc are all fairly decent bets.

it depends. Some people like to do it tough. I bet Kell Brook would fear none of the above. Porter and Thurman were considered level-pegging at this stage...although Thurman looks rangier, which poses a bit more danger imo.
If Brook fights again this year - and Amir is hoping to fight Floyd next May (is that right?) - then it doesn't really leave much of a gap for Brook-Khan.

I would like to see Brook have one more fight and then fight Amir Khan in an all British showdown with a stacked undercard. Is Khan holding a belt of any description right now or was his Collazo bout non-title.....I'll have to check that. :>

I'm sure Kell likes it tough. Like most fighters. Not quite sure Eddie will be as keen though....

Aside from all that, any of the above fighters mentioned would require huge money to come over, probably above Matchroom's budget. I really think the better option, and the one they will take, is an 'easier' homecoming defence and then try to negotiate the Khan megafight for the May/June stadium fight PPV. If Brook won that well, a fight vs Mayweather or Pacquiao in autumn 2015 is not out of the question.
