Ike Quartey to return to the ring...
One of the best fighters of the modern era, Ike "Bazooka" Quartey, is to launch a comeback.
Ike has been out since April 2000 when Fernando Vargas outpointed him for the IBF light-middleweight title.

Great fighter - he's a cousin of a friend of mine and he was over here last summer. My mate phoned me up and put Ike on the phone - first thing I asked, of course, was when are you coming back to make a few more millions?
He just laughed and said he wasn't interested in fighting again, enjoying the good life too much - loves his brandy and cigars I hear.
Not sure how good he'll still be, he had that bad case of malaria awhile back - and that can take a lot out of you.
Fantastic fighter in his prime - I thought he had a great chance against Oscar, but he was a bit past his best by then.

i havent mate, first time i heard he was considering coming back is when i read this post.
he started out at light welter and moved up to welter before having his final fight as bennie mentioned at light middle. you `d have to say at his age it`s probably going to be light middle but if he has been ill maybe he `s lost a bit of weight.
your guess is as good as mine mate.

I met someone from Ghana about a year ago, we got talking about Boxing and he said that Ike at first wasn't that popular in his own country as some people felt he was a little arrogent.
However he said that over the last few years Ike had matured and become far more popular although not to the extent that Azumah Nelson who is a folk hero in Ghana.
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Yes his cousin told me the same thing. Ike was one of around 19 kids, but he now drives around town in his roles royce, with a gun under his seat, and is seen as much too arrogant - not very popular at all.KOJOE90 wrote:I met someone from Ghana about a year ago, we got talking about Boxing and he said that Ike at first wasn't that popular in his own country as some people felt he was a little arrogent.

When he was over last summer, he got into a argument with one of my friend's neighbours ( at the BBQ ) and ended up chasing the guy down the street. As you can guess, he has a short fuse
The guy had looked a bit too long at Ike's wife - she's around 20 stone BTW

the acaries brothers of course led him to his world title first time roundMightyWarrior wrote:Spoke to his friend yesterday, and Ike is currently staying in Streatham London with his wife's family.
He was very surprised to hear that anyone knew about his comeback plans, but it's all true, and he's meeting the Acaries brothers in Paris later this week.
