Did Naz drop the WBC belt or was he stripped?

Bit of both. He was holding the WBO belt concurrently, and WBC don't allow people to hold their belt and WBO.

Naz opted to stick with WBO. The easy route.

That always makes me wonder. He refused to fight Marquez, but decided to take on Barrera, who, IMO, at that time was by far the better fighter. He was under no obligation to get in the ring with Barrera, so calling it the easy route is a little harsh in relation to some of the protected fighters we have at the moment.

Marquez was a nobody over here when Hamed was WBC champ, think Marquez just lost to freddie Norwood. Hamed would of KO'd Marquez at that time.

Real Deal is correct. The Marquez who (IMO) beat Manny Pac was a different fighter from the one who NaZ didn't fight.

At that time Hamed was looking at the upper echeleons of the weights: Morales, Mayweather, Corrales etc. Of course Naz came unstuck against MAB, but his mentality at the time was not to duck fighters; merely to not box fighters that couldn't generate him a 3 USD purse.
