WHAT'S UP WITH JUNIOR?

Post by SenorPipino »

Curious as to what's happening with my main man, Julio Chavez Jr?
Where's he disappeared to since he vanquished Bryan Vera 6 months ago?

It used to be that Junior would lead off the boxing news every other day with his churlish behavior. Now you barely hear his name uttered.
Has he officially fled Top Rank? Has anyone (AKA Haymon) locked him in?

For a while it appeared he was headed for a 168 lb. showdown with Froch. Then word of the fight dried up.
Just the other day, Golden Boy honcho O. de la Hoya (possibly still under the influence of some mind-altering substance) said that if a Canelo-Cotto fight falls through for spring 2015, he would instead like to match Canelo with Junior at (drum roll please) 159 POUNDS.
With Chavez being off for a lengthy period, it's a real question as to whether the training-adverse Junior can make 259 lbs. much less 159.

A showdown with Hopkins, after he tames Kovey, is much more likely for the son of the legend.
But first he has to resurface from the rock he's hiding beneath before anything can transpire.

I think that Junior somewhat realizes that he can't compete with top SMWs or GGG, so he is postponing the moment of truth.

I think he will come back as a cruiserweight.A few good match ups there and he should not have a problem making the weight.

Junior ain't got nothing to fear from those walk-in, one dimensional Russians. It's slicksters like Ward he should avoid at all cost.

Then he should take one right after the other! If both fights are so easy for him, take them! Probably the biggest checks for him out there right now.

But we both know you're just biased and blinded by it and Jr would stand no chance against either :TU:

Junior (the bigger version of Rios) is SOOOOOO one-dimensional compared to those two Russians, especially Golovkin (who is by the way not quite Russian).

You got things confused.

Im not Junior's manager, PunchoutSB. Does he even have one or a promoter anymore?
But if I was in charge of Junior's fortunes, I'd have him take on those Russians in a heartbeat.
Big bucks, minimal risk.

They're much too small to endanger the strapping Hijo de la Layenda.
No bias there. Just look at the physical dimensions and bulk on that kid. He could whip cruisers so how could these diminutive flat-footed Russians cause problems? Body hooks will bring those suckers down rapido.

Yes, I'm fully aware that Golovkin has been annointed the third greatest middleweight of all time, behind Robinson and Hopkins. His own trainer, Sanchez, says so. Just because he's frightened of Ward is no disgrace to his future legacy.

And yes, the neophyte Kovey is nearly 3-1 to destroy B-Hop (I assume the oddsmakers figure Kovey will be borrowing Margarito's knuckle pads).

But Junior is a bird of a different feather.
Remember, he's the guy who truly took it all out of Martinez.

Mother Russia will have to look for its victories somewhere else.

Is that Miguel Angel Garcia, AKA Mikey Garcia? Never knew he was pro-Nazi.

Why do you get so riled if someone has a difference of opinion on the merits of Russian boxers?
Could your name have anything to do with it?

I thought that Chavez Jr. is having contractual issues with Bob Arum, because he only has one more fight left of his contract with Top Rank? :-?

Apparently, in order to secure a good payday against Golovkin or Froch, he was being coerced to sign a contract extension with Top Rank. However, if Chavez Jr. agreed to take either of those bouts, but without the contract extension, then his purse would be cut drastically. Without knowing the precise details or both sides of the story, it superficially appears that Julio is being held to ransom. :o

As one of the bigger PPV draws in the sport of boxing, Julio wants to become a free agent, much akin to Cotto, Hopkins, Mayweather etc. So he’s reluctant to extend his contract with Top Rank.
Excellent analysis, devoid of the usual Junior bias.
I'm not sure he's one of boxing's top PPV draws, however. His only major PPV bout was against Martinez, and that drew about 500,000. A very solid number.
But his subsequent HBO bouts against Vera weren't terribly well received, and live attendance at Home Depot Center for the rematch was disappointing. Apparently, some are tiring of Junior's antics. I'd be surprised to see him in another PPV bout unless it was against an elite opponent such as Ward, Hopkins or Canelo.

Angel Garcia is Danny Garcia's father upset by fact that those damn foreigners take attention from his son and of course himself. You will love each other, as you both treat people collectively based on their origin. Go, Nazi !
