Just the other day, Golden Boy honcho O. de la Hoya (possibly still under the influence of some mind-altering substance) said that if a Canelo-Cotto fight falls through for spring 2015, he would instead like to match Canelo with Junior at (drum roll please) 159 POUNDS.
With Chavez being off for a lengthy period, it's a real question as to whether the training-adverse Junior can make 259 lbs. much less 159.

A showdown with Hopkins, after he tames Kovey, is much more likely for the son of the legend.
But first he has to resurface from the rock he's hiding beneath before anything can transpire.

Junior (the bigger version of Rios) is SOOOOOO one-dimensional compared to those two Russians, especially Golovkin (who is by the way not quite Russian).

I thought that Chavez Jr. is having contractual issues with Bob Arum, because he only has one more fight left of his contract with Top Rank?

Apparently, in order to secure a good payday against Golovkin or Froch, he was being coerced to sign a contract extension with Top Rank. However, if Chavez Jr. agreed to take either of those bouts, but without the contract extension, then his purse would be cut drastically. Without knowing the precise details or both sides of the story, it superficially appears that Julio is being held to ransom.

As one of the bigger PPV draws in the sport of boxing, Julio wants to become a free agent, much akin to Cotto, Hopkins, Mayweather etc. So he’s reluctant to extend his contract with Top Rank.

I'm not sure he's one of boxing's top PPV draws, however. His only major PPV bout was against Martinez, and that drew about 500,000. A very solid number.
But his subsequent HBO bouts against Vera weren't terribly well received, and live attendance at Home Depot Center for the rematch was disappointing. Apparently, some are tiring of Junior's antics. I'd be surprised to see him in another PPV bout unless it was against an elite opponent such as Ward, Hopkins or Canelo.
