Great competitive Heavyweight fights coming up this fall.

Post by vovazilvova »

very often we see lots of mismatched fights in heavyweight division, this fall we got some good competitive fights coming up.

October 18th, Odlanier Solis (20-13-2-0. #12 Boxrec) vs. Tony Thompson (39-26-5-0. #22 Boxrec) rematch
October 24th, Alex Leapai (30-24-5-3. #24 Boxrec) vs. Malik Scott (36-13-2-1. #47 Boxrec) Scott is rated low by boxrec, but competitive fight.
October 24th, Alexander Povetkin (27-19-1-0. #7 Boxrec) vs. Carlos Takam (30-23-1-0. #6 Boxrec) good fight.
November 8th, Tomasz Adamek (49-29-3-0. #10 Boxrec) vs. Artur Szpilka (16-12-1-0. #42 Boxrec) competitive even thought Szpilka under rated.
November 15th, Wladimir Klitschko (62-52-3-0. #1 Boxrec) vs. Kubrat Pulev (20-11-0-0. #2 Boxrec) good fight.
November 29th, Tyson Fury (22-16-0-0. #3 Boxrec) vs. Dereck Chisora (20-13-4-0. #8 Boxrec) rematch
??????????????, Bermane Stiverne (24-21-1-1. #4 Boxrec) vs. Deontay Wilder (32-32-0-0. #9 Boxrec) lets hope it happens soon.

I like these fights. I pick winners to be, Solis, Scott, Povetkin, Szpilka, Klitschko, Fury and Stivern.

who do you pick.

Winners in bold.

And you're right, there's some good competitive HW matchups there! I'm especially looking forward to Povetkin-Takam, Wilder-Stiverne and Pulev-Klitschko.

Fury/Chisora is the only one I'm excited for.

I might actually watch Wlad/Pulev. Probably will take nice odds on Takam against the woeful Povetkin.

Picks would be Solis, Leapai, Povetkin, Szpilka, Wlad, Chisora & wilder(if that ever happens)

Woeful? That is harsh. I think he will clean Takam's clock.

October 18th, Odlanier Solis (20-13-2-0. #12 Boxrec) vs. Tony Thompson (39-26-5-0. #22 Boxrec) rematch
Both are fatties, Solis is the better boxer, but Thompson is bigger, longer and has by far the better stamina and heart. On the other hand, Solis has age on his side. I have to favor Thompson to take another decision, but it's a close call.
October 24th, Alex Leapai (30-24-5-3. #24 Boxrec) vs. Malik Scott (36-13-2-1. #47 Boxrec) Scott is rated low by boxrec, but competitive fight.
Leapai does best against guys who trade with him - he was outboxed and stopped by Kevin Johnson. Is Scott is good enough to outbox Glazkov he should do the same against Leapai. Scott by a wide decision.
October 24th, Alexander Povetkin (27-19-1-0. #7 Boxrec) vs. Carlos Takam (30-23-1-0. #6 Boxrec) good fight.
Povetkin is probably the better boxer, but Takam is bigger, stronger and coming off a big win over an opponent better than anyone Povetkin has ever beaten. No result could surprise me here, but I'll take Takam by a close decision.
November 8th, Tomasz Adamek (49-29-3-0. #10 Boxrec) vs. Artur Szpilka (16-12-1-0. #42 Boxrec) competitive even thought Szpilka under rated.
If Adamek is 75% as good as he once was, he should win this handily because Szpilka really isn't that good (good speed, decent power but poor defence and average chin). That said, Adamek is way past his best, so who knows. I'll take Adamek by a mid rounds stoppage with no confidence whatsoever.
November 15th, Wladimir Klitschko (62-52-3-0. #1 Boxrec) vs. Kubrat Pulev (20-11-0-0. #2 Boxrec) good fight.
Should be a jab-fest that I expect Wlad to win in a wide decision.
November 29th, Tyson Fury (22-16-0-0. #3 Boxrec) vs. Dereck Chisora (20-13-4-0. #8 Boxrec) rematch
Fury won last time against a fat, unmotivated Chisora. Both should be better now than then, but Fury still has the size, speed and skills to take another decision in a competitive fight.
??????????????, Bermane Stiverne (24-21-1-1. #4 Boxrec) vs. Deontay Wilder (32-32-0-0. #9 Boxrec) lets hope it happens soon.
This WILL NOT go the distance, of that I am 99% sure. Stiverne's inactivity is a worry, but he has wins over better opponents and Wilder is still untested. I'll take Stiverne in an early KO.

Odlanier Solis (20-13-2-0. #12 Boxrec) vs. Tony Thompson (39-26-5-0. #22 Boxrec) rematch
I think Solis will win this unconvincingly, having gassed in the last few rounds.
October 24th, Alex Leapai (30-24-5-3. #24 Boxrec) vs. Malik Scott (36-13-2-1. #47 Boxrec)
Very poor choice of opponent for post-Klitschko Leapai - Scott will dance around, keep Leapai at bay and stop him late.
October 24th, Alexander Povetkin (27-19-1-0. #7 Boxrec) vs. Carlos Takam (30-23-1-0. #6 Boxrec) good fight.
Very good match-up - I predict Povetkin to show his class and stop Takam in the 8th after a torrid few rounds.
November 8th, Tomasz Adamek (49-29-3-0. #10 Boxrec) vs. Artur Szpilka (16-12-1-0. #42 Boxrec)
Hard to pick - Adamek is running out of steam as a top-level boxer and will survive a late knock-down to win.
November 15th, Wladimir Klitschko (62-52-3-0. #1 Boxrec) vs. Kubrat Pulev (20-11-0-0. #2 Boxrec) good fight.
Klitschko late knock-out.
November 29th, Tyson Fury (22-16-0-0. #3 Boxrec) vs. Dereck Chisora (20-13-4-0. #8 Boxrec) rematch
Another hard-scratcher! From what I see Chisora doesn't have the concussive power to halt Fury, I will go for a reasonably wide decision for the big gypsy (or traveller or whatever they are called).
??????????????, Bermane Stiverne (24-21-1-1. #4 Boxrec) vs. Deontay Wilder (32-32-0-0. #9 Boxrec) lets hope it happens soon.
Foaming at the mouth for this one - two big big lads with a lot of animosity. I think this is where Wilder's streak ends - Wilder wins the first two rounds convincingly before Stiverne stops him in the third.

Can't wait for these fights!! It is great to see competitors step away from the journeymen and get stuck into each other.

I pick Solis to win a robbery. Same fight as last time with different "winner."
I pick Scott to win a decision that will be close on the scorecards.
I pick Takam to win a unanimous decision over Povetkin.
I pick Szpilka to outwork Adamek.
Wlad will shutout Pulev.
Fury-Chisora won't happen.
Wilder-Stiverne won't happen.

Am way more interested in flyweights (and most every other division) than heavyweights, but this is a decent lineup by recent standards and am interested in Wlad v Pulev. Wlad wins but at least Pulev deserves the title shot

no he is not. povetkin was one of the best amateurs in the last 20 years but he had issues with his training habits. he often showed up flabby and with no stamina.

povetkin is a good boxer but not the biggest puncher. he is a volume puncher and needs to be in very good shape. if povetkin is in good shape he can beat most fighters of the division.

it all depends on povetkins shape. takam is a decent boxer with a good heart and good stamina. he will fight hard for 12 rounds. povetkin is a much better boxer but when he is not in shape takam could outwork a tired povetkin in the second half of the fight. very nice fight.

Povetkin IS crap, meaning right now. I never said he was a crappy amateur. He's regressed to a pile of dung. You're right that he can beat most fighters in the division. The division is crap.

The division is only crap because they're not fighting each other. Any sport would suck if they didn't hold games.

If Malik is in a competitive fight with a guy that guy should consider a career change.

Povetkin is also already approaching his mid-30s. A volume-punching style suits a younger fighter in their 20s more. I like Takam in an upset. Povetkin is the better boxer but he's pretty easy to hit.

several of those fights may fall through..esp wilder v stiverne

but theres a lot of good ones

the pick is probably Fury v delboy and wlad v pulev

altho i dont see any big fireworks and knockouts in most of the others. potential for lots of quite dull laboured points wins.

Well there is two Malik Scott's. And my assumption, perhaps incorrectly, will be the guy showing up from here out is the second guy or closer to the second guy anyway.

There's this guy that fought Glaskov.

And then there's this guy with the titties.

Some interesting heavyweight fights in the pipeline. Perhaps none more interesting for a lot of reasons than Wilder vs Stiverne.
