Re: Evander Holyfield vs Ezzard Charles @190lbs
Ezzard was the classic textbook boxer---- who could rise to the occasion, and was most dangerous when hurt--- Evander was the textbook warrior, who always rised to the occasion, and when the odds were stacked against him, he was all the more brilliant--- its so very hard to rate these men individually or make comparisons.
Ezzard was the greatest light heavyweight to ever live--- and I could only imagine that if he was in a time when the Cruiserweight division existed, he would of been the greatest of that weight class as well.
Evander was the greatest cruiserweight to ever live--- and he lived in an era with a ridiculous amount of talent at heavyweight, and cemented himself either as its most acclaimed, most decorated hero, or he is at least second best.
Both men, don't always get the respect they are given at heavyweight. For Evander, it was because he wasn't as popular or as exciting as Mike Tyson, and he lost the trilogy with Bowe and looked amateur against Lewis--- but he did beat Moorer, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, etc. Even now, he's still considered the undersized fighter, with lots of courage--- but people look passed what abilities he actually had.
For Ezzard, it was because he followed (and later defeated) the wildly popular Joe Louis. His was an era in which the great fighters either were gone, or were yet to come. Even so, he made Jersey Joe Walcott look like crap in their series of fights and defended the title against every worthy challenger available--- and when he was an older, slower man he gave Rocky Marciano arguably the toughest fight of his entire career (not once, but twice).
Alot of similar attributes in both men, having to overcome alot of odds and public perception that they were "boring" or "undersized"--- but both men were great tacticians/punchers, threw punches in bunches, blessed with amazing stamina and an uncanny ability to take punishment and keep dishing it back.
If it came to be... I see this fight being every bit a war as Holyfield/Qawi or Charles/Marciano was.... going the entire fifteen rounds, and ending in a split decision--- and nobody would boo, because it was that awesome to witness. It could go either way.

I'm thinking Ezz might eek it out on style points. While a lot of people would whine about the outcome thinking that he had not done enough to overcome Holy's sober aggressiveness.
Like you say, it would be great to watch, and a razor thin difference, and the outcome would simply demand "another go round". lol.
I like Ezz's chances in a 15 rounder better than I do in a 12 rounder.

At heavyweight, where they can weigh as much as they want, I like Holyfield to stop Charles late or win a close decision.
At 190lb, Charles wins a clear decision.

I chose 190 as that's where Holy was still natural and Charles was at close to his peak.

Charles by decision at any weight. Evander did not do well vs slick stylists.
Re: Evander Holyfield vs Ezzard Charles @190lbs
..ezzard wasn't prime at 190....he fought best as a heavy when he weighed 182-185....the latter at the highest. t that weight he'd beat the determined holyfield, but i don't think he'd knock him out...
Re: Evander Holyfield vs Ezzard Charles @190lbs
Charles by decision at CW by 2 or 3 pts. At HW Evander by KO inside of 10.

I lean towards Evander by split decision.I would not bet on it though.
But I would of mortgaged my home to see this one.
