Look at this since 1996:

Sugarboy Malinga beats Nigel Benn
Malinga loses to Nardiello in first defence
who loses to Robin Reid in first defence
Reid makes 3 defences, loses to Malinga
Malinga loses to Woodhall in first defence
Woodhall makes 2 defences, loses to Beyer
Beyer makes 1 defence, then gets KTFO by Catley
Catley gets KTFO by Thobela
Thobela loses to Hilton
Lucas picks up vacant title, makes 3 defences then loses to Beyer
Beyer makes 2 defences, loses it at the weekend.

What a hard belt to keep hold of!

The WBC flyweight belt in the early 80ties wasnt better

Antonio Avelar lost in his 2nd defense to Prudencio Cardona
Cardona lost in his first defense to Freddy Castillo
Castillo lost in his first defense to Eleoncio Mercedes
Mercedes lost in his first defense to Charlie Magri
Magri lost in his first defense to Frank Cedeno
Cedeno lost in his first defense to Koji Kobayashi
Kobayashi lost in his first defense to Gabriel Bernal
Bernal lost in his 2nd defense against Sot Chitalada
Chitalada got the title "back to normal" and defended it 6 times

Yes, that was a real hotbed. All those fighters were class. Gabriel Bernal is one of the most underrated flyweights ever. He was robbed at least twice against Chitalada in Thailand.

We had a great British title jinx at super-feather in the 80's and into the 90's:

John Doherty outpointed Pat Doherty for the vacant title
Pat Cowdell stopped Doherty, who was making his first defence
Najib Daho knocked out Cowdell, making his first defence
Cowdell stopped Daho, making his first defence
Floyd Havard stopped Cowdell, making his first defence
John Doherty stopped Havard, making his first defence
Michael Armstrong stopped Doherty, making his first defence
Neil Haddock stopped Armsrong, making his first defence.
Haddock managed to retain the title

He's face down on the canvas, looking like he's just about to start some press ups, even though he was out cold.

Yes, Prudencio Cardona flattened Avelar in his own hometown! Prudencio was the brother of Ricardo, former WBC super-bantamweight champion. They don't get a mention much when people talk about brothers who won world titles, but were two fine fighters.

Thulane Malinga is another very underrated fighter, he beat some excellent fighters, and was in his 40's when he beat Nigel Benn.

Yes, I did a great disservice to several great pros. The night Kevin Pritchard flattened Hughie Forde was a joyous one. Both Boxing News and Boxing Monthly really wrote off Pritchard's chances - a solid pro who was getting his first real break. Forde was good, but not that good. I watched the fight at Dudley and when Pritchard poleaxed Forde with a right hand in the fourth round, felt I had just passed my driving test again.
