Monaco Boxing - Who is paying for it?

We have now seen a few cards in Monaco featuring British fighters with a particularly stacked one this weekend. It looks as though the crowd numbers just a few hundred people, so my question is who is paying the fighters and how are they making any money? Surely GGG v Murray will cost a lot in purses and warrants a much bigger venue?

VIP packages for Golovkin-Murray are 4,000 Euros, the venue might only hold 1,000, but if they sell a few hundred of those, plus TV money from HBO. They make up for the small crowds with big ticket prices, I'm not a fan personally because there's no atmosphere, but it's obviously worthwhile if they're carrying on with it.

I'm not sure how it works in Monaco but I worked in Casinos in the US for close to two decades & how they do it in Vegas is the casino will pay the promoter $Xm to have the fight at their venue. Different boxers bring in a different crowd so the 'drop' (amount of money that goes into the house, not accounting for win/loss revenue) on a normal weekend might be $10 million (to pull a number out of my aris) but for a Mayweather fight it might be $70m.

So only one casino puts up the money. Other casinos get a slice of the action but only one divies up.

Was the Monaco fight at a casino? I haven't been there in over 30 years so have no idea. If not, which casino would pay the money? and how would they guarantee that these Russians come to their casino & not go to one of the others?

I've been wondering about the Monaco boxing money myself. None of the fighters on the bill are big names so I doubt if TV is paying.

True. Never going to be NW of England obviously due to GGG being the main attraction but atmosphere would be class. I'd prefer it to be Vegas or California to Monaco though, the fight is too big for a small hall type venue.

Murray can't get a US Visa though and as you say Golovkin wouldn't fight here, so Monaco's the only realistic option left for the fight unless they took it to Kazakhstan.

Seriously though. I think certain Casinos are willing to pay the promoter big bucks to stage the fight there due to the... 'consumers' I suppose... it brings in...

There are also the £4k+ VIP packages and TV rights!

Wouldn't this be better in Germany? GGG is based there and has bigger stadiums etc and Murray can fight there as no Visa issues.

Suppose if the Casino is Monaco is stumping up the cash then that is why. I would like to go to this but getting there probably cost me as much as going to vegas

GGG isnt based there. He's lived in LA or california for the last few years. He did live in germany but he's been living in america since hooking up with Abel Sanchez. His wife and son were still living in germany up until very recently i think but they've got out there aswell i think.

Casino's throw a lot of money up. I was talking to someone who couldn't get their head around Chavez-Froch in Las Vegas, arguing it would make more money in the U.K., but US casino and/or PPV money elevates you into a whole new earning capacity.

I think it would definitely make more money in the UK. Chavez's name is a tad tarnished & Froch isn't a star over here.

However, Carl wants a fight in Vegas and he deserves it too so I hope it works out for him.
