Probably the most underrated coach/trainer in British Boxing. With Froch almost at the end of his glorious career, who will be McCracken's next project?

I would like to see him work with Lee Selby, I think he has all the tools to be one of the British greats.

Think it's Tony Sims, sure I read that it was written into his contract that he had to train with Sims. Nothing to do with jobs for the boys of course

Sims does seem to be a very popular mismatchroom bhoy! What about McCracken then expe, who can he work with, he was obviously brilliant with Carl Froch? A lot of me thinks without McCracken in the corner of Froch he wouldn't have got as far.

Depends if McCracken carries on training pros, he's got a good job with the GB Squad, but he can't be in the corner with them as he trains professionals too. If he were to carry on I think he'd keep his stable small, similar to Adam Booth, quality over quantity. Whoever he trains will have to train in Sheffield, so that rules a few out, but there's plenty that would train with him, Luke Campbell might be a possibility, I'm not sure what his training situation is currently. It's hard to say in all honesty, there's no one out there without a trainer and I've no idea who would be willing to change trainers or who McCracken would be interested in training.

Fair enough, from the sounds of it, if McCracken has the GB team sorted, he could cherry pick the top prospects and make a lot of money from them. Not sure who is up and coming though.

His contract with gb allowed him to work with Froch and only Froch. But it would be naive to think that Campbell, Joshua, Ogogo et al aren't still being trained by him. They are all in Sheffield most of the time for sparring! Robert himself was at the matchroom gym recently (saw on a ifltv video).

It's not above board but what do you expect. The fighters have faith in him but his hands are tied. Not just by gb but by aiba. Bit of a conflict of in interest but unavoidable really.

He's come a long way hasn't he,I remember chatting to him when he was still an amateur light-welter and he was pretty intense then,comes across as very calm and assured now though and universally respected too.

Always like Rob. A very nice man, knows how to conduct himself in the corner, is always calm and is clear and concise with his instruction. He was also a tough so and so in the ring as well. When he took over the class of 2000 I thought his fighters took too many shots to land one and that was Rob's style in the ring as well. Froch was similar in early days but over years Rob has developed into a fine tactical trainer. A real credit to our sport. Thats my humble opinion anyway.

Sims' daughter (Chloe) is the bird off TOWIE.

Eddie's misses and Chloe Sims have a business together - a beauty salon or something.

I think that Eddie went to the same over-priced, under-achieving school that e few of the TOWIE dullards / thicko's went to.


Getting back to boxing ...... it seems to me that McCracken and Froch just clicked and worked well together, both sharing the same ideas etc.

It is one of those situations where both together they are worth more than the sum of their parts.

I don't think any of the old Olympic boys have anything to do with Rob. No way there would be any breaches of contract.

However, if by coincidence he's in the same gym when they are training or sparring, they might not tell him to be quiet.

He is a credit to the game - did wonders for the 2012 squad despite the Blazers and the idiots at AIBA, and if he did jack in the amateurs, you've got to think he'd build an elite stable quickly. Luke C has always been publicly and privately grateful. To be honest , I could train Joshua to a world title based on his talent and physicality. He just needs a mentor figure to keep him true to the game and his talent. He clearly has that at the moment (and to be fair to AJ it may be from within anyway, as all the gym whispers since 2012 have been amazingly positive). Its just conjecture, but after Rio, rob might want a new challenge, and AJ and his camp might think they need the right man for the superstar push.

I'd like to see McCracken become the full-time trainer of Anthony Joshua, Tony Bellew & Ricky Burns. I think that he would improve each of them.

McCracken may be a genuinely great trainer, but he's not stopped Froch shipping punches has he? I think mentally he's great for Froch, but Froch's chin has saved him a lot of defeats, not the tactical/technical genius of McCracken which I can't say I've seen for Froch.

Hard to judge as he only gets the cream of the crop and had some potentially naturally talented fighters like Matthew Thirwell and Leo O'Reilly who both underachieved massively.

If Carl Froch didn't have such a granite chin we would probably not even be having this discussion.

I am surprised he was given the job with team GB as he had never trained an amateur in his life.

I actually see Robert as a vastly underrated boxer whose left jab was like a right hand, brilliant chin, (survived the bombs of Ensley Bingham) but was not moved fast enough when he was on fire as a welterweight, nobody seems to talk about his career as a boxer and he really really could fight.

Also like the way he does not get caught up in any trash talking like a lot of today's ego driven trainers and he is always calm and humble.

Don't want to sound harsh about his quality as a trainer but I am a believer that great fighters are made in the womb and what other British trainer would have failed with Froch????????

What ever happened to his brother Spencer? he was being a decent pro as well. Remember him getting ripped of against Paul Samuels and his mates weren't to happy to say the least, spitting on John Coyle.
