How Ratings are Calculated
How does boxrec figure their rankings?

There've been lots of threads about this - I suggest you do a search for posts by BoxRec ratings maven computerrank. Note that while I greatly appreciate CR's work as far as the computer ratings go, I tend to be in the same camp as BoxRec editor Blue, who pointed out some significant shortcomings of the current ratings system in this recent thread:

My general sense is that we're on the right track, but very much need to stop rewarding fighters for beating nobodies or merely stepping in the ring (Blue points out one example of a guy who's 0-27 and yet has over a thousand rating points), and punishing them so much for losing to champions or fellow top-ranked contenders (even if they get points for it, the fact that they can get more points for beating one or 2 stiffs amounts to a form of punishment).
