Say what you will... Dempsey couldn't lay a damn glove on Meehan... and Ruiz would of fought anybody.

Ruiz was not afraid of any man.I will agree...I also think he may have been the most boring heavyweightHomicideHenry wrote:Say what you will... Ruiz would of fought anybody.
in history but he was not near as bad as people paint him out to be
Re: Prime Willie Meehan vs Prime John Ruiz
He got beat by two middleweights.
He hugged to an exaggerated extent.
Not sure he earned that draw vs Holyfield
That's as bad as I paint him out to be. I think he is near that bad.
Tua was able to demonstrate how "good" Ruiz was.
Valuev beat him.....twice.
What did you think of the Golata fight?
How do you think he would have done against Chris Byrd?
Ok, he could beat me, and most of the posters here at boxrec. So that's his saving grace.

Re: Prime Willie Meehan vs Prime John Ruiz
Ruiz whether you liked him or not was a top five heavyweight during the Lewis era.
His "losses" to Valuev (which I also found to be the most exciting of Ruiz' career) were questionable.
As for Golota, hey... its Golota... if Andrew loses fights its because of his own damn doing.
As for asking how well he would of did against Byrd.... lemme ask the question, outside of the enormous Klitschko's and Ibeabuchi... who else looked good EVER against Byrd? His style was equally boring as Ruiz' was. At least Ruiz had a punch and a sneaky overhand right from time to time. With Byrd it was "tap-tap-tap" all night.
As for Tua... the way I look at it is that Ruiz, until that point, had really beaten nobody of consequence. He was a regional fighter at best, and was fed to the Tuaman.... mind you Hasim Rahman went the distance twice with Tua, and was never knocked down by Tua... yet Rahman did get floored by Ruiz. Hey, thats boxing, its funny like that some times.
As for bringing up Jones and Toney (and you may as well bring Haye into it as well)... All three are HOF'ers, Toney later tested positive for steroids, the referee was overly protective of Jones, and by the time Haye fought him "The Quiet Man" had been inactive for quite some time.
No, he sure wasn't a great fighter--- and I am sure we could compile a list of many men who could have beaten him--- but don't knock his courage, don't knock his willingness to fight anyone, don't knock his overall accomplishments being a 2x heavyweight champion (even if it was under the dubious WBA), and above all else don't knock the man for being a fighter. He was boring as all get out, yes, but that statement of "Ok he could beat me and most the posters here at BoxRec"... is about as disrespectful and out right outrageous as any I have ever seen or heard in my life time as a fan of the sport.
Ruiz, I'd bet a dollar to a donut, could fight ten or twenty (any ten or twenty you wish to choose) of us in a night and knock all our heads off relatively easy. NOBODY and I mean NOBODY gets within shouting distance of the lineal championship, unless you are damn good yourself. Dismal era or not.

HH....you got the serious heebeejeebees.
I mean you're too damn serious. Ya need a girlfriend, or a hobby...or both. lol.
Look, I'm a fan of boxing, and I don't like Ruiz, he's a bum. If you don't like it...your a bum. Capice?
Two Ton Toney would murder the bum. Because he wouldn't allow the guy to hug on him that long.
And TTT was on the "bum of the month tour". That's a bum beating a bum, So that MUST prove Ruiz was a bum.
And if you don't like it? You guessed it. YOU'RE a bum.
Oh....and did I mention Ruiz was a bum? He stunk up the joint more than he electrified it.
That don't mean he wasn't courageous. You are courageous. AND your a bum.
Oh....and so is Reggie Strickland. He's courageous, AND he's a bum.
Got nothin' but love for ya HH. Ya bum.

Ruiz would fight anyone? He wouldn't fight anyone even when was in the ring with them. All he did was maul, spoil, cheat, whine to the ref and flop to the floor. Shame he didn't doggedly pursue a rematch with Tua, that could've spared us all a lot of pain.

Ruiz never knocked Rahman down!HomicideHenry wrote:... yet Rahman did get floored by Ruiz. Hey, thats boxing, its funny like that some times.
Seriously, Henry. Not only do you write the weirdest stuff, in the most longwinded way, your facts are almost always glaringly wrong. You don't even know that you don't know what you're talking about.

Did Ruiz have a prime?

BoxBuzz... do have a woman believe it or not... but I dont talk boxing around her *its boring* lol
I stand corrected... there wasnt a knockdown... BUT... in the second round Ruiz landed the right, and Rahman was rocked and wobbling... I dont really recall Tua ever doing that to Hasim in their two matches.Tuan_Jim wrote:Ruiz never knocked Rahman down!HomicideHenry wrote:... yet Rahman did get floored by Ruiz. Otherwise, you're opinion is just that, an opinion--- like mine.

How about in your very next post, when you write that you can't recall Tua 'ever rocking or wobbling Rahman'. Not seen rounds 9 and 10 of Tua/Rahman I then?HomicideHenry wrote: Also while we are at it.... name me many instances where I am "almost always wrong".

Henry . . . do you drink-write?
