Sturm files protest

Post by bugs »

Apparently Felix Sturm has filed a protest against the decision on Saturday. Fair enough DLH files protests and complains when he thinks he won a fight that he clearly lost, good for the goose . . .

Yep, and neither protest will make a damned bit of difference. Well, except that Bob Arum might end up in jail.

Good luck to Felix, but I fear it will do no good.

I would be very shocked if DLH goes within a mile of Felix.

Sturm deserves another title shot of some sort though.

The thing is, Felix gets doubly screwed, he now has a loss on his record he shouldn't have, and Oscar is retiring almost certainly after his next bout.

Hopkins, who has about two years left before he retires, won't go near him as he isn't a draw, and he's basically worse off than he was before the fight. It's not like any of the prospects will want to fight Sturm now.

What do these protests actually achieve apart from more fee's for the governing bodies?

sometimes a disputed loss can work in your favour...if you look at someone like Glengoffe Johnson his first fight against Woods meant he got a lot of sympathy from boxing fans and they talked about him more than they would have done if he'd been given a narrow decision.

Not as good as a win over DLH but if he gets a good fight next up then he may become a "name" which would attract other top american fighters leading to decent paydays.

I think losing closely (many would say disputedly) to a big-name fighter like DLH has greatly raised Sturm's profile outside of Europe, much like losing to Lewis did for Vitali. I'd say it's much too early to conclude that this loss has hurt Sturm's long-term career prospects, and if I had to guess i'd say it's done precisely the opposite.

yes, you´re right. now he has a name and has convinced a lot of spectators and 99% of this forum that he is a good boxer. the future belongs to him.

That's certainly much more than his promoter paid for his WBO belt, so they likely made quite a tidy profit. ;)

No, I sleep on a jizz-stained, cigarette-burned mattress on the floor of my uncle Billy Bob's trailer home. No running water, but a great internet connection. ;)

Actually, I was just kidding about the cigarette burns. :P

I have a job where 3-4 times a day I have a 15-30 minute spell where I need to be at my computer to watch over a build and quicktest of our latest software, but don't actually have much to do but keep an occasional eye on it. What better way to spend it than over here? (Don't answer that - it was meant rhetorically.) ;)

Felix had a close win over Velazco and a clear win over DLH. Don´t mix it. that doesn´t apologize "the american way". Considering Tortilla, there is just do say that I gave him a nickname "de la Tortilla-Kournikova" months before. nobody cared. if somebody e.g. sayed "russian robots" nobody cared. or: "damn kraut ottke", nobody cared. you should "control" your american friends for racial posts, not me. and BTW, mr.blue, the most eaten meals in germany are pizza, spaghetti and döner kebap, because we are all racists and nazis........... you can find more nazis and racists in the U.S..
of course not when you just watch your famous TV series......
