Will Carl Froch Vacate

Post by fighting_irish »

Listening to Eddie last night and he was saying Carl has until the end of December to make his mind up on wheather to vacate or face DeGale. DeGale calling Carl a coward is stupid, don't believe Carl has ever ducked a man in his life.

Listening to Carl his heart is set on the bright lights of Las Vegas and he has earned the right to want that. Whatever happens I think Froch beats DeGale if it happens, suppose it's all about the dollars if it makes sense it will happen.

If Carl does vacate what happens?

You can't really blame Degale for sounding off, he wants the Froch fight, not the belt (regardless what he says to the contrary).

I'd rather Carl vacated and then let the next generation fight it out.

Because if Froch smokes Degale - and I think he will lay him out badly - then our 168lb division is finished. Only Callum Smith will be left.

Plus we'd all prefer GGG instead, if HBO can write a big enough cheque.

I agree - and it just makes DeGale look even more of a nob than he usually does.

However, I would have more understanding for Froch is he didn't do / say what he did to Calzaghe when he was in the same position.

Just evolution I suppose - young pup comes through and wants to fight the old dog, after a while the young pup becomes the old dog.

Based on rankings, it should be number 1 v number 2. in the IBF.

As it stands, there's no number 2. spot. It should therefore be deGale v Rebrasse in London for the vacant IBF title.

The thought of this fight is mouth watering, what a way to bow out with a win over GGG!!!

I'm not that interested in Chavez, it gets Froch to Vegas but what does it really mean to the fans and his legacy? By fighting Chavez he is litterally buying his way into Vegas, he does not need to do that, he has earned the right to fight there on merrit. After all Froch has goven the sport its tough to say he should go after GGG if he wants a meaningful fight in Vegas, but thats probably his only realistic option other than Chavez which, as i say, is like an easy ticket to Vegas.

Surely Degale as mandatory challenger would face the next highest?

Anyone know who that is...? :)

Nah, he'll vacate.

I actually side with Froch on this one. He has earnt the right to pick and choose his next opponent after having to fight 2 mandatories with groves. If he wants to fight in Vegas then he should go and do it. I have a feeling that eddie will do nothing to help carl achieve this.

I told you, the next highest is Rebrasse. Check on the link I provided.

No. Dirrell's mandatory is Groves. Negociations are already on their way for Jan/Feb 2015.

But don't the sanctioning bodies make exceptions for unification fights and make their mandatory challengers wait?

when fighters have operated at such a level that froch has i think the fight against Dirrell would not need a title , loads of fights have been made with elite fighters with no title at stake . Personally I think Froch don't fancy a rematch with Dirrell and I don't blame him tbh .

Given that he was recently mandatory himself, what are the chances of the IBF sanctioning Groves v Degale for the vacant belt if Carl vacates?

Groves is ranked 5, so if Ramirez Sanchez and Julius Jackson turned the fight down, Groves would be next in line and the IBF would offer him the fight.

Yup, and funnily enough it's exactly the same reasons now being cited for Froch that were given for Calzaghe - he's earnt the right to pick & choose opponents, wants to finish his career with a big name/money fight in the US...

Id sooner Froch boxed Chavez, the styles and chins would make it an absolute belter; Ward would be another messy, tough bout and I don't see Froch winning; Golovkin would be a good bout but may well be more punishing than a Chavez match up.

Andre Dirrell fights Derek Edwards in an IBF eliminator this December. I think it's for #2 ranking behind DeGale. If Andre wins, Froch should give him a rematch. Idk why Froch thinks he can get a PPV fight in US. Even the fight against Chavez, which is not going to happen, is borderline PPV. Like really borderline, because both haven't fought in a while. Plus the Mexican fans are way more excited for Canelo-Cotto right now. This fight would go unnoticed.
I think Dirrell would be the best bet for Froch right now. If not then DeGale.

Atlantic City would be more likely. For someone's who's been at the top so long, Hopkins hasn't fought in Las Vegas that often and he hasn't boxed there for nearly 5 years. At this stage I'm not sure he has the drawing power to top the bill in Las Vegas, certainly not against Froch.

Apoligies if this has already been discussed aplenty but who's actually Anthony Dirrell's mandatory?

George Groves or Callum Smith?

I know when Groves beat Rebrasse for the European it doubled up as an eliminator for the WBC

So what happened then? Did George vacate his mandatory spot to allow Smith/Sjekloca to fight for it

i'm sure it is Groves , who I think whilst he didn't look too good last night , got a bit of unneccessary stick against a much trickier southpaw opponant than Degale looked to have . I still think Degale would win the rematch if there was one tho
