Stiverne v Wilder

Post by ruin795 »

Anybody been keeping up on this, or know anything about it? Boxrec says it will happen January 17th in Vegas.

I know boxrec is not always right, but I hope it's true! :bag:

I've never understood the swell of support for Stiverne, he looks very average to me. At least Wilder in an unknown quantity.

I think he has a decent chin and a good punch, so he is not a bad boxer. Wilder seems possibly chinny so he definitely has a chance to catch him.

However, Wilder is taller and more athletic. Should be easy enough if he stays on the outside. I don't think Stiverne has the legs to catch up to him.

Enough power to KO Arreola early, enough durability to take Arreola's best shots, clearly a good boxer, and good hand speed. Wilder has less proven power against live opponents, less proven durability, less proven skills... I'd say there's about an 80% chance that Stiverne is the better fighter given what we know of Stiverne and what we don't know of Wilder.

If Stiverne was not so stationary, I might agree. Right now I see this fight as a 60-40 in Wilder's favor. The result will tell us a lot about both guys.

The hot rumor is that Haymon Boxing announces the deal with NBC next week, and I expect this to be the first network broadcast they do. For the record - everyone has legitimate doubts about Wilder, but Stiverne is hardly a battle tested vet. We'll find out in a hurry if guys were being paid to lay down or if Wilder really does have that kind of once in a lifetime power. I'll go ahead and say he does have that one punch power because, screw it, why not? Wilder KO2.

Senor De La Hoya has said that he expects the fight to be televised by Showtime.
It will take place either Jan. 17 or the following weekend, according to him.
