Fury Video

Post by DazDiCanio »

He's very varied on the pads but what caught my eye is the jab/left hook combo.

Any coaches/people who know in here tell me about this combination?
I can't recall ever seeing it and certainly i've never used it.

Can see the benefits but it must very, very difficult to throw with any sort of timing/rhythm/speed.

Cheers

Seen Kell Brook throwing it on the pads before a fight, not sure if he's thrown it in a fight but I'd assume he has.

it isn't easy at all you are right it's a difficult skill, not even that easy to do on the bag never mind a man trying to punch you in the face

a couple of fighters I could mention, Wlad K knocked that dude out with a left hook off the jab couple of fights ago, wasn't directly off the jab IIRC but set up by the jab and the dude (Pulev i think?) was looking for the straight shot which is why the hook was so effective.

Ken Buchanan was a great one for hooking off the jab, could double or triple the jab and then even double a hook off it

check out the Ismael Laguna fight he does it several times in that one

a little technical wrinkle I have tried and worked, its not quite what you are on about I don't think, but it works when you have a guy who tries to counter your jab with a right hand. you jab in anticipation of him countering, the jab's just to draw the counter right and following the jab you immediately guard up/absorb the right hand and immediately throw the left hook off it. so its more jab-guard-hook, than it is jab-hook, but the pause to guard up gives you that split second to reset your bodyweight for the left hook rather than trying it isntantly where unless you're really fvcking good it may not have too much power, much easier to get power on it the way i just described, IMO (or at least for mere mortals like me)

Hooking off the jab you mean?

Cus D'Amato and some old time trainers made that all but a necessity in training for their fighters. Tyson could hook off the jab too. It takes a great deal of hand speed and timing, to pull it off though. You have to have a quick mind, in order to set that up.
