Billy joe Saunders has been as heavy as 16 stone
Inbetween fights? This is what sports writer Kevin Mitchell claims billy told him, when Kevin was being interview by ifilm London. Has Kevin Mitchell misheard billy? Cause that even rivals Roberto durans weight gain in between fights
Re: Billy joe Saunders has been as heavy as 16 stone
I always thought he looked fat in the face when he has worked inbetween fights as a pundit

BJS lives the life when he's not in camp. Out drinking with his mates etc. Its well known that he loses a lot of weight for fights.
But 16st is maybe a bit too extreme.
Looks very good for this one tbf, can't knock the guys work.

That was when he had his hand operation, I doubt it's that extreme all the time.
Re: Billy joe Saunders has been as heavy as 16 stone
Still pretty shocking though. He's not a particularily tall middleweight so to get up to 16 stone even if couldnt use his hand/s is pretty poor i think.stevieb_8006 wrote:That was when he had his hand operation, I doubt it's that extreme all the time.

I think people from travelling stock fade faster than most when it comes to physical assets. They tend to mature physically and mentally, a lot earlier than the rest of us. Men at 13 etc
Certainly the case with those from travelling stock I know anyway.

I wonder if there is a tendency not to live the life a wee bit.lillywhite14 wrote:I think people from travelling stock fade faster than most when it comes to physical assets. They tend to mature physically and mentally, a lot earlier than the rest of us. Men at 13 etc

That's not a judgement or anything tho.
Speaking of travellers, whatever happened to that tall rangy kid that kept his hands low? John o donnell was it? Hennessey used to promote him I think.

If you are surprised a middleweight gets to 16 stone between fights you havent been around boxers for long.
Re: Billy joe Saunders has been as heavy as 16 stone
Pretty sure Carl froch who is a super middle doesnt even get to that sort of weight when he's not fighting. I doubt Eubank Jnr does either.Broomhall wrote:If you are surprised a middleweight gets to 16 stone between fights you havent been around boxers for long.

I would say they are the exception rather than the norm.lefty wrote:Pretty sure Carl froch who is a super middle doesnt even get to that sort of weight when he's not fighting. Surely not for the truely dedicated one's. I doubt even Martin Murray who is a big middleweight walks around at 16 stone. Probably 14 and a half or 15 but not that heavy.Broomhall wrote:I would say they are the exception rather than the norm.lefty wrote:Pretty sure Carl froch who is a super middle doesnt even get to that sort of weight when he's not fighting. Re: Billy joe Saunders has been as heavy as 16 stone
Saunders doesn't walk around at 16 stone, but there was 10 months between him fighting Ryder and Blandamura, he had a hand operation, probably enjoyed himself a bit too much and ballooned up in weight. Ricky Hatton was usually well above 13 stone between fights, but in terms of his walking around weight, if he was in half decent shape it would have been a lot lighter.lefty wrote:Surely not for the truely dedicated one's. Yeah but that still takes some going to get that heavy. Also Hatton was fat as hell at times. Almost clinically obese you could say.expe wrote:Saunders doesn't walk around at 16 stone, but there was 10 months between him fighting Ryder and Blandamura, he had a hand operation, probably enjoyed himself a bit too much and ballooned up in weight. I knew a gypsy kid who was the embodiment of this. He was about 6'2" and 14 stone when he was 13. His Dad was a car dealer and he'd taken him out of school and given him a car, so he was driving too! I haven't seen him for about 10 years so I couldn't tell you how he looks now.lillywhite14 wrote:I think people from travelling stock fade faster than most when it comes to physical assets. Conversely I remember little gypsy kids at school who were proper squeaky little sh*ts. Some little fat kid with glasses who I remember crying in one of our English classes cos the teacher told him off. His parents took him out of school too, he was supposed to be some promising boxer or something. Years later I was visiting my Mum and I was reading her free local paper and this kid (I won't name him but he had a very distinctive biblical name) was in it, going to prison for ripping old people off for roofing work they never needed doing. He looked about 40, was big and fat and rough looking.
I don't know about maturing mentally. A lot of the travellers I knew were a bit volatile emotionally. They seemed to have a bit of a childlike quality in some respects.

The ones I've known were always old before their time. 15/16 and some were married, all were working full time. Fast forward ten years and they all looked ten years older than they were, in some cases older than that! Getting married so young would do that to anyone though I guess!
Re: Billy joe Saunders has been as heavy as 16 stone
sounds like a load of old balony to me , he did some analysis work ringside on various shows and was no way 16 st

That's crazy even if he's rounding up. Duran used to regularly weigh 200lbs entering training camp as a welter / light middle / middle.
Apparently he used to spend his time out of training drinking endless champagne, eating bookers' pussies and masturbating his lion if you believe everything

Re: Billy joe Saunders has been as heavy as 16 stone
It is not unusual for fighters to go 20-40lbs over fighting weight-I did it when I was boxing and I know most of the other guys did. When these guys weigh in for a fight they will have dried out and many are at least 10 lbs heavier by the next day alone.
If you look at pictures of Chavez Jr-this guy fights at 160-170, but look at him out of training.

Chavez Jnr is also the exception not the norm. The man puts on a ridiculous amount of weight after weigh-ins. He makes even the bigger middleweight look small.
