Chris Sanigar still in there punching

One of the hardest men ever to grace a boxing ring, Chris Sanigar, is doing a great job in revitalising the sport in the west country. He brought Audley Harrison to a packed Whitchurch Leisure Centre in Bristol last month and will now stage the vacant British middleweight title fight between Scott Dann and Steve Bendall in Plymouth on Saturday, September 4.
Sanigar outbid Tommy Gilmour, Bendall's manager, after both were asked to submit closed purse bids to the Board.
Gilmour, backed by Sky Sports through Barry Hearn's Matchroom promotions, was expected to submit the highest bid and stage the fight in Bendall's backyard at the Coventry Skydome.
However, Sanigar surprised everyone.
"Everybody thought Gilmour would get it, but they all got a big shock," he said with a smile.
"They all think we're mugs in the west country, but talk is cheap - money buys the whisky!
"This is the biggest fight ever in Plymouth and I've delivered it."
Dann, who is currently taking a quiet break with close family in Majorca, said: "This is what every fighter dreams of - fighting for a major title in their home town.
"This is the best news. It's made my day. I thought I was going to have to go to Coventry."

I'm well chuffed for Sanigar. He does wonders for boxing in the West Country and it's a nice payoff for all his hard work that it's being staged in Plymouth.

It would be nice to see a Western Area title fight on the undercard.
