Two clever, tricky fighters with excellent skills and underated punching power. They also both had great chins, soI see this as a distance fight for sure. I'm thinking of the prime Jimmy Young who beat George Foreman against the Spinks who 'beat' Larry Holmes.
I find this a hard one to visualise as they both had such tricky styles. Do you think this would be a battle of the jabs, with Spinks trying to score with his fabled Spinks right hand, whilst Young attacked with his underated body shots?
Would Young take the role of aggressor working his way in with that sneaky jab and landing good shots to body and head, whilst spinks retreated using his 'herky Jerky' style to try and confuse Young?
What do you think fight fans?
Michael Spinks Vs Jimmy Young at Heavyweight.
Michael Spinks fought only one top heavyweight who was in his prime and we all know what happened. Jimmy Young on the other hand turned in good to excellent performances against Foreman, Ali, Norton and Lyle twice. At HW Spinks was less aggressive than he was at LHW, so this bout might get off to a slow start. Still I see Spinks going on the attack first and establishing a very early lead, but by about the 4th round I think Young would have him figured out and would dominate the rest of the fight. The very fact that Young usually wasen't a big puncher (Foreman might beg to differ) might actually hurt Spinks since it could very well encourage him to stand right in front of his opponent and try and land his shots. In this scenario I think Young takes a clear cut decision over 12 or 15. If Young managed to stagger Spinks early though, it could change the entire complexion of the fight. And in a scenario with a cautious boxer against a counter puncher, anything could happen as the judges would then probably switch there concentration from the bout to the ring girls.
