Andy Lee technique vid

Post by arlovski »

Loved Lee's performance over the weekend - controlled, measured, perfectly paced; against another very good and dangerous fighter.

Done a little video on what i thought the key bits were, if anyone's interested.

Good stuff and one thing that stood out to me when I watched live was how well Lee was able to move out of range. That said, despite what you've highlighted I think he was clearly losing and to me the win wasn't so much a product of good tactics throughout the bout as it was staying composed and keeping his technique tight when Korobov got wild in the sixth after landing some good shots.

Yeah know what you mean, when i watched it first time i thought Lee was clearly losing, but watching again i think it was close, Booth knew Korobov slowed down in fights and i think constantly having to try and close range, miss shots, then re-set, really took a toll on him, physically and mentally - Lee was coming into the fight more and more, starting to time Korobov more with his own jab, all the while looking fresh and composed like you say.

Good, technical fight between two high level operators with top trainers

Great video mate, thanks for sharing....gives good insight for people like me who are not as in the know 'technique wise' as some others on here are.

I really enjoyed the breakdown and will be looking out for more if you do them!!

Great stuff.

Watching it live, I gave Andy the 3rd round clearly and the 5th on the benefit of the doubt.

He said after that he though Korobov was done after the right hook - not sure if he meant he was going to the canvas? Which makes the way he finished the job with those precision punches even more impressive.

Not sure about the 'greatness' of this but it's well done and easy to follow. Rookie information tbf but it's good that people take the time to do these things. :TU:

Thanks arlovski...great work and nice to read/watch your analysis.

Andy Lee is the one who carries out the actions in the ring but jesus, adam booth has done a fantastic job over the last 2 years. andy used to be a fighter who would duke it out with an opponent before his opponent is/was hurt. this can only work in boxing up to a particular level. adam made andy box to an astute gameplan as you have highlighted. andy lee did not go into duke mode unitl the Russian was hurt and in disarray. loved the footwork lee showed in the fight, its such an important part of defence and of course helps the 'hit and don't get hit' philosophy. I used to like the footwork of sven ottke, I know he was a moaning old twat but he used to avoid a lot of shots due to his footwork. ottke never carried the equaliser that lee does. lee v BJS is going to be a great fight for the title if it happens. the fight will be won as much outside the ring as inside. you have the old guard jimmy tibbs vs one of the new brigade adam booth, the boxers styles hould compliment each other well. BJS is seasoned and slick, reasonable engine and power, good chin and good ring savvy. lee has the belt, belief, power ++, the ability to box to a gameplan, he is rangey. im looking forward to it.

That's whats nice about it I guess, not everyone who comes on here is an expert (myself included) so I personally quite like it when people break things down this.

would love to see more of them with other peoples views as well, to compare how different people see things.

I think you are being a tad harsh mate.... 'great vid' is a term of phrase really, does not make arlovski an overnight sensation nor a millionaire. yes the info is basic for the more advanced boxing purist but its good to see the GREAT effort.... :D

Ha! Cheers, yeah just of turn of phrase i think, i don't think i'm doing anything amazing or doing groundbreaking analysis, on the contrary i like showing the simple stuff that quality fighters do well; trying to highlight the fact that subtle, 'basic' moves and tactics are so effective, yet i think neglected by loads of fighters and trainers in favour of hours drilling 10/20 punch combinations on the pads, to look flash more than anything else.

I've only really done the videos for my own enjoyment and for the benefit of some of the lads i train, i bore them to tears trying to explain how McCallum dipped from the waste/Joe Louis parried and used angles etc - so thought it would be easier for them to watch videos - appealing to the computer generation eh :TU:

Nice to know others enjoy watching them though

I never do requests like this, but could you do a Julio Cesar Chavez Snr video? I love the way he was able to unload huge bombs on the inside!

This.

The way JCC Snr went about his art is hugely underrated in my eyes and not particularly well documented.

JCC wasn't a simple pressure fighter - he could press with intelligent, effective pressure and avoid shots whilst breaking quality operators down.

JCC v Rosario was a masterclass in pressure fighting.

Yeah for sure, I love him for the reasons you mention, did anyone catch that exhibition he did the other night? 52 years old and still got all the moves, you could watch it without knowing who it was and still recognise El Grand Campeon :box:

Your post made me look it out, a master lads indeed. The way Chavez closed the distance early on and used his elbows and shoulders inside to make space for bombs must have been very demoralising to Rosario.

Chavez is one of the finest pressure fighters i have ever seen, his fight with rosario was amazing,he took some monster punches bang on the chin in that fight and never flinched once, also the was he dismantled Comacho was pure class,Chavez was the complete fighter in my eyes.

I really rate Booth.

To me it really looked like it was a distinct plan - back foot from the off, making Korobov reach and fall short, use his legs to chase, then Lee feinting to keep him guessing and having to re-set. I thought it was a great plan to tire Korobov physically and mentally, before slowly exerting their own pressure, which Lee started to do with his own jab in the 5th, by then Korobov looked genuinely more tired and laboured.

I'd love to know if this was an actual plan/gameplan was for the fight, or if i'm spotting things that Lee just did instinctively to avoid Korobov. I doubt it as Lee is not the type to fight scared, he's more than happy to engage, so thought it was class how he really waited and picked his moment.

If anyone knows Booth, send him the vid, and confirm or deny that he is a tactical genius 8)
