Well done Adam Smith!

Post by AlexY2K4 »

Well done Adam for standing up to the fat, evil bastard allegedly, Warren was giving him lip but Smith didn't kiss his arse and stood his ground.

He slightly let it down when he agreed with Hatton already having had big fights, but i'm so glad he didn't do what everyone else does by kissing his sweating, fat arse.

He backed off a bit. He should have mentioned Cotto's progress, that might have shut him up a bit. Forget the Harris fight, it won't be made. Hatton could get pole-axed. Thats a could just, its a risk and thats why the fight won't happen. A loss would not be the end of the world, the Harris fight won't happen imo.

McGuigan seems to be on our side now as well on Spadafora. He mentioned he isn't really good enough and is a lightweight.

I loved it when he said "Well no i'm not trying to cause controversy actually" then he just carried on speaking to Hatton as he was earlier before Warren interupted him.

Yes I was about to post the same. Wonder if Sky told him to ask the million dollar question, about time they did.
Had to laugh when I saw Frank's bulging eyes - he was furious, if the cameras weren't there he'd have probably hit Smith. You could see him thinking "Is this guy trying to do me out of a job?!"

Hatton looked flat, he's obviously as fed up as everyone else - apart from Frank of course, and his 20,000 Man City fans, who no doubt thought they were watching a genuine world title fight.....

Bring on Viv Harris - that's the 50/50 fight they need to mark Hatton's arrival on the genuine world stage.

Did they really say this was Warren's 200th world title fight, or was I hearing things?

More like 20th I'd say.

I actually think the question could have been asked alot more differently i.e. "What would your reaction be if standing in the opposite corner in October is another Vilches, when you've been promised another opponent".

I actually think Warren had a point with his anger, what was Hatton going to say with Warren standing next to him. It was simply trying to stirr up trouble, cause some tension and it was turning this sport into a soap opera.

Hatton should have been asked how fuming he would be if Warren didn't deliever, but not "So will you be leaving the man standning next to you, whose can't deliever" - which is basically what he said. If Hatton would have said "Yes I would be a little angered, but trust the management of Sports Network" then we know he's not as bothered as he makes out.

Someone who deserves a big pat on the back is Barry, for basically dismissing Sparaforda as the overrated Lightweight that he is. He stressed it time and time again, "not Sparaforda its Harris we want". Thank you Barry.

Hattons the man in control here. Its his career thats stagnating, the question was rightly asked I think.

Hattton was in a no-win situation though with the question, if Hatton would have said "I'm quite contented with the way my career is going at Sports Network". The Journo's etc would have had a field day saying that Hatton has no desire etc.

If Hatton would have said "I'll look at other avenues", Warren wouldn't have like it and he is still in control of Hatton's career untill his contract expires. Remember what Don King did to Danny Williams and Howard Eastman.

Either way someone would have been fuming, and this is because of the way the question was worded. A simple "What happens" instead of "Will you be looking at other options" if a decent fight doesn't materialise in September would have been better. If that was directed to Hatton, at least it wasn't so controversial and Hatton could have answered it. Lets not forget, Hatton didn't answer the question, cause Warren spoke instead - if the questions wasn't worded with clearly a potential split being insinuated from the off, we might have got the answer.

Warren was right, the question was trying to create controversy - for my Phd one aspect we look at is athletes body language and I have to say there has been some tension there. No congratulatory hug (usually is). Hatton couldn't look Warren in the eye (signs that he's had his knuckles wrapped recently) and Warren looked worried about Hatton's response to the controvesial question. I think Adam was trying to create a story more than find out opinions by the way he worded the question (and it worked). Also, it was the type of question that should be asked without Warren present 1) it was a little bit cheeky and rude 2)You'd get a better answer.

I think if Adam felt brave he could have really gone to town on allegedly like mention to him (and the paying public) that he said it will either be Harries and Sparaforda in October, repeat that and stress if its not, does he realise that his reputation for keeping promisises would be shot to pieces.

I say well done to Adam Smith, although he didnt follow the argument up he still put an honest question forward in front of Warren which alot of these ass kissers wont do. Myself i would be more excited with the prospect of a Warren-Smith match up than i was of the Hatton-Pederson fight. Smith would be popping them stiff jabs out as if they were awkward questions.

Smith always reminds me a bit of David Jaco. :D Warren, on the other hand, looks a bit like a slug. So he would likely be a slugger. :TU:

If i was Adam Smith i wouldn't have let Warren have his little hissy fit. It would have been much more amusing to see him fuming and ranting in the background while the interview was conducted. I've never had a soft spot for Smith, but it's a question that needed to be asked (i loved the way he just changed the wording and asked exactly the same question).

Also it was interesting to hear Frank say that he needs more money from sky to make the really big fights. He really came across as a man who knows he's under a little bit of pressure.

I came on here to say pretty much the same thing having just watched the fight after falling into a drunken sleep on my first effort last night. Smith did well, good luck to him.

What made me laugh is how angry Warren got, I mean come on we know his team obviously scan this forum and ones like it and after Hatton speaking out in the paper surely he must have been expecting a question like this? Yet he sounded surprised.....

Why does Frank need Sky to cough up so much money? He's not dealing with Oscar, Roy Jones or Hopkins. Guys who demand millions to get in the ring. Their are no real superstars in this division. Someone like Vivian Harris is not going to demand big money to get in the ring with Ricky Hatton. He fought Urkal in Germany which was a potentially more hazardous assignment.

Why doesn't Frank put some of the cash from all Rickys big sellout shows towards a big name? Shit, even Witter. He brings over these South Americans because he knows he won't have to pay them all that much and then he rakes in money from the show. fornicate Spadafora, he's a lightweight and over-rated at that. Witter would be ideal, I see no real problem of that fight being made if they really want it. Cotto's looks like he's going to fight Pinto which will free up Harris. No excuses now.

I really thought Framk was going to chin Adam Smith, who has gone up a little in my estimation after asking that question. Although he did back down a little, but to be fair If he had continued along that line I doubt Hatton would have taken the bait anyway, and Warrens head would have exploded, like a scene out of Scanners.
