Leonardo Aguero/Raton Palacios

Post by scartissue »

While looking up some of Mando Ramos' old opponents I found what appeared to be an error. My old RRB has him fighting a Leonardo Aguero of Mexico, but boxrec has the same opponent listed as Raton Palacios. I reviewed a number of his fights - and he had some very high profile fights in San Antonio and Los Angeles - no where is he mentioned in pre-fight or post fight articles as Raton Palacios. He is always called Leonardo Aguero of Durango. The only thing that sheds some light on it was one article that referred to him as Leonardo 'Raton' Aguero. Now, Mexican fight records always refer to fighters by their nicknames, which makes it very difficult to follow and I believe this to be the case. Raton Palacios, i believe is just a nickname. Unless every article on him is wrong, he fought as Leonardo Aguero.

Palacios's birth name was Leonardo Alberto Palacios Agüero. Although U.S. reports evidently gave his name as Leonardo Aguero, in Mexico he was known as Raton (tr. Mouse) Palacios, so he's listed here as such.

Raton is an alias ring name as you said meaning mouse as many mexican fighters have used that nick name for many years. If this fighter is known by raton it is because in mexico many fighters are known more by their nick name and not their real name as in Canelo Alveras meaning cinamon Alverez. The writer above does give a very good point about a real name and a allias ring name.

I understand about the Mexican ring nicknames, I even mentioned it in my original post. I'm only baffled by why it never traveled with him. Lorenzo "Halimi' Guttierrez had that name both sides of the border as did Jesus "Chucho" Garcia and Octavio "Famoso" Gomez and their names are not nicknames in boxrec but their actual. As I said before Aguero/Palacios fought high profile bouts with Mando Ramos, Raul Rojas and Jose Luis Castillo and all reports were Leonardo Aguero. Again, I'm just curious why the name didn't travel with him.
