Question about weight - GAINED Or Lost in A Day
Question about weight - GAINED Or Lost in A Day
What's the most weight a person can put on in a day, muscle. And also same question as in how much you can lose in 24 hours?

As this is a boxing site the worse example I've seen is 17lbs off to make the weight then 17lbs on come fight night.

I've had some massive dumps but that takes the biscuit.Parson Cross wrote:As this is a boxing site the worse example I've seen is 17lbs off to make the weight then 17lbs on come fight night.

Didn't Eubank drop a ton to make the WBO fight with Joe?
I seem to recall Gatti's huge weight gain induced a new rule with the IBF for maximum increase or something..

Re: Question about weight - GAINED Or Lost in A Day
None of those weight gains will be muscle, it's fluid/water.
Eubank dropped an insane amount of weight at short notice to make 168 for the Calzaghe fight.
The Gatti fight against Gamache is the perfect example, he [re]gained a huge amount of weight after weigh-in.
Toney dropped a lot of weight for the Jones fight but he was always a big drainer, it was rare to see him at weigh-ins without a huge bottle of gatorade. McClellan a huge drainer, he would [re]gain 20-30lbs.
Herbie Hide would gain weight for weigh-ins, he was a cruiserweight really, downing protein shakes.
Arce was also a big drainer, especially at the lower weights. I'd say he put on a fair % back on once weighed in. I seem to remember him looking really ill at one weigh-in and collapsing and having to be carried for a lie down.

How do protein shakes help you gain weight? They are water with a few grams of protein and about 130cals.orbtastic wrote: Herbie Hide would gain weight for weigh-ins, he was a cruiserweight really, downing protein shakes.
Re: Question about weight - GAINED Or Lost in A Day
Dunno, that's what he said himself. Can't find the interview offhand but he said he was hitting the shakes to bulk up for weigh-ins at heavyweight. Could just be excuses, mind.tobyh5 wrote:How do protein shakes help you gain weight? Help you to build muscle, I don't think Hide meant that he would blow up in weight a couple of days before the weigh in, more that he had to bulk up while training to become a heavyweight.tobyh5 wrote:How do protein shakes help you gain weight? Along with most top level amateurs Billy. Most coaches will turn a blind eye.billy bessey wrote:When i was on the Army boxing team quite often we'd go home on the friday and be 1 1/2-2st heavier by the monday morning then with 2 runs and 2 training sessions in sweat suits we would have lost over a st by the Monday night wrong i know but hey ho
Most people dont believe me when I say that a top level amateur can weigh in on a Friday for a fight Saturday and be at least a stone heavier the following monday.
Re: Question about weight - GAINED Or Lost in A Day
Not a massive amount but as a bantam I lost 4 1/2 pounds in 40 minutes for a fight which I thought was good going for my size

Then there are all the Kayes / Hatton stories.
Re: Question about weight - GAINED Or Lost in A Day
A certain featherweight champion in fairly recent times went from a 1pm weigh-in to 10sts 10lbs the following night. For you metric people out there, that's an increase of 24 lbs in real money.

Really? That's an insane gain for any fighter, nevermind a featherweight! Even super weight drainer Chavez Jnr "only" manages around 18-20lbs gain.dalcumly wrote:A certain featherweight champion in fairly recent times went from a 1pm weigh-in to 10sts 10lbs the following night. Are you sure the fighter in question gained 24lbs? Also interested to know who it was; Walters?
Re: Question about weight - GAINED Or Lost in A Day
Scott Harrison was always massive compared to the weigh in
i think most Title level pros will put on a stone or over but some of them in the past have the knack to get major weight off and use it to there advantage
And when a last minute blown up weight replacment comes in doesnt have to drain for the weight then the size difference can look obscene

Ingle was a huge drainer, it's what did for him in his last fight.

gatti vs Gamache was one of the worst from what i remember?
Re: Question about weight - GAINED Or Lost in A Day
It was one of the most publiscised. But recently Kevin Mitchell blew his chances of a title shot by coming in over 12 lbs heavier from the official weigh in on the secondary weigh in.Yes We Can wrote:gatti vs Gamache was one of the worst from what i remember?
Even on this site people just dont believe how much weight fighters put on between fights. I would think the average championship level pro walks around over 30 lbs over the fighting weight, and I would think 40-50lbs not uncommon.
Re: Question about weight - GAINED Or Lost in A Day
Wasn't Ingle purported to walk around at 12st or more between fights? That's a huge body mass for a 9st fighter.
I remember Hatton saying he would "keep in shape" between fights by walking fast in a big coat. I mean...

Was it Rocky Fielding who didn't even bother making weight recently, with Hearn telling him not to even try on the morning of the weigh in, that was disrespectful to the opponent.

Came in half a stone over weight for the Adamu fight in March.digzee wrote:Was it Rocky Fielding who didn't even bother making weight recently, with Hearn telling him not to even try on the morning of the weigh in, that was disrespectful to the opponent.
Re: Question about weight - GAINED Or Lost in A Day
This is the problem that the 24 hour weigh in has created, very unfair advantages towards guys who are cutting huge weights.
Id love to see it sorted, don't know how but something needs to be done to get people fighting nearer their natural weight.
