Williamson has fought very infrequently over the past 5 years or so. But it was only back in May he fought Molina. Haven't heard he has officially retired.

Williamson was raised in poverty in inner city Washington D.C.. He was born to a mother addicted to drugs and a criminal father. He spent his youth moving between foster homes and between schools until his father chose to resume contact at the age of 11.

He earned opportunities at NFL tryouts despite not even starting when he played college football.

Williamson's first amateur wasn't until he was 25 years old. Yet he still complied a record of 120-17-1 (103 KO's) , including wins over Lamon Brewster, Monte Barrett and Calvin Brock. After just 2 years of amateur boxing he earned a spot on the 1996 Olympic team as a first alternate. While training for the Olympics he earned a masters degree in school.

And his pro career was pretty awesome. He was always very good at putting away hurt opponents.

I agree.........he made the most out of what he had.

I was too small, came in 210 lbs and had a soft chin. he was a month shy of his 32 birthday by the time he turned pro.
Not to mention he arguably beat or at least had a draw with Wlad.

I think he is in a semi-retired state right now. I live in Colorado and he has his own gym in which he trains folks, though he doesn't really produce a serious crop of youngsters. I suppose he makes a decent living doing that.

He did have an awesome career......didn't begin boxing til 25, turned pro at 32.....a bunch of amateur titles and several good pro wins. not to mention if he's such a joke maybe u can watch him give wlad all kinds of headaches and even drop him. I mean he arguably pulled out a win or at least a draw against wlad. thats a little better than a shit sandwich imo.

Williamson always struck me as extremely gangly and awkward in his movements; not very fluid or athletic. To that end, given his late start to boxing, he vastly overachieved.

It was pretty awesome compared to 98% of fighter's careers. Several HBO/Showtime appearances and got into the top 15. Go learn something about the sport.

Only seen the guy fight once vs Wlad Klitschko , just remember some type of cut over somebody's forehead and Wlad's career being at the cross roads and Wlad getting bailed out with some type of weird DQ decision, which was actually cool cause Wlad eventually went on to a HOF career.But was looking pretty sketchy when he fought DaVarryl Williamson.

Madison told me he's the hardest puncher he's been in with, sparring or actual pro fights, for whatever that is worth. So I imagine he must have some power. I remember him landing a bomb in the Jefferson fight.
