David Price to face Costa Jnr

Just been confirmed by Sauerland, David Price will face Brazilian HW Costa Jnr (16W 14KO's, 2L) on the under-card of Abraham v Smith.

Costa went 12 rounds with Hammer a few months back(on Eurosport if anyone remembers) and lost, then got KO'd in 4 by Joe Parker(hell of a knockdown) before winning his last fight by KO back home in Brazil.

Should be decent enough after the setbacks that Pricey has had. Costa likes to come forward but is very limited.

Saw the Hammer fight,first time I've seen Costa fight.Not massively impressed I think Price takes him out 3 rounds or so.First southpaw he has faced since Tony Thompson though maybe that's the thinking?

why not aim for Ustinov, Rudenko, Pianeta.... i'm tempted to say even Lewison would be a better fight.

He already has been and came up very short twice against someone who he should have beat comfortable. He's just getting selectively managed until he gets a decent payday shot then This system works for every other heavyweight of today he's just joining a long line of them.

It doesnt matter how you get them or who you get them against but winning regularly builds confidence, and Priceys confidence probably needs more building than he needs rounds, or testing.

Its tricky because he isnt learning much knocking guys over, but you balance that against building his self belief again.

I can forgive his matcmaker for the Zavorotnyi fight as he got ten rounds in (which surprised me) and the Pala fight was ok as at least Pala gives it a go and is dangerous for a couple of rounds, this fight seems like something of a backwards step to be honest.

David Price is a likeable gentleman.

But in boxing terms, I don't recall anyone's career go from platinum prospect to a bundle of sticks as quickly as Price's.

Defeat is nothing, it happens - but it's the manner of the back to back losses that lingers. His stamina just completely deserted him in moments, he was wobbling around and almost turning away when the ending came.

I'd love for him to come back better and improved, to be proven completely wrong. But sadly I don't think I will do.

Hughie Fury is fighting Rudenko next month - don't think it will do Big Dave's confidence any good to be fighting sloppy seconds of the 20 year old cousin of his once big rival Tyson.

Ustinov would be great though as he still has an aura about him as some people (I think unfairly) think Fury bottled it against him as a last minute replacement

He is the same size as Big Dave and has only lost to Pulev so a win against him would put him right back in the mix.

A better opponent than his last scheduled opponent which he was injured for. He's been out a short while now so i'm not too critical of this fight. Hopefully he can get out again pretty quick after this fight.

Seriously, I have never seen such a long rebuilding job on any fighter in memory.

It's as though his primary goal now is to attempt to outlive every dangerous opponent in the sport.

I would have a lot more respect for him if he actually tried to take on some challenges.

I'm not sure these opponents are doing anything at all for his confidence. In fact, he'll probably shit himself even more next time somebody hits him back given it hasn't happened for so long.

I can forgive this opponent as a rust-shedder if Price is back out quickly (within a month) and taking on a better opponent....in fact that next should almost be arranged already. If not, I see no clear direction in where he's going.

It doesn't matter what happens next with a carefully selected opponent.

We all know (and more importantly Price also knows) that the first time he faces a live opponent he will get hit, freeze, his energy will instantly completely disappear, he will not know what to do and will get smashed.

I echo the comments here and its disappointing to see him against another sub standard opponent but..

There's always a but..

If he lands first and lands big, not many heavies are sticking around to carry on the fight.

He still has a decent chance of beating someone like Fury and its still a fight I'd like to see at some point. Doubt it ever happens though.

It shows how far apart Fury and Price have become that Fury is warming up for a world title vs Hammer ... whilst Price is fighting his 4th fight since losing to twice in a row to Thompson vs a guy that got soundly beaten by Hammer.

Shocking really when you consider Price was seen as the one of the two more likely to go on to big things!
