RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
Re: RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
This can't really be happening?
Talk of Rigo vs Santa Cruz
Talk of Frampton vs Quigg
Talk of an eventual Rigo vs Frampton
We can't have the best fighting the best and actually proving, definitively, who the best in the division is.....
That would just be, well...... sensible
What is boxing coming to these days

Re: RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
I'd love to see this, but I don't expect it to come off unless Oscar thinks Leo has a better chance to win than most of the public does.
Re: RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
I like Leo, but I can see this as being an easy night's work for Rigo.
The only thing that may come into play is the terrible quality of the fighters that Rigo has recently faced, may give Leo a chance to press early on.

Re: RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
Do Santa Cruz really believes that he can get 3 million to fight Rigo? He will price himself out of this fight and shamelessly duck Rigo. I could be wrong and I hope they could make the fight.
I think Rigo will beat Santa Cruz easier than most people think. Santa Cruz is simply way to hittable. Rigo will put on a clinic.

Re: RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
I am pretty positive Rigo will win, but give Santa Cruz more of a chance than most people would to at least make it a very competitive fight. It will be a great fight to see, and one I would definitely watch. Rigo is 34, and probably has reached his prime, if not slightly past it.
Re: RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
Haymon won't let him fight Rigo are you kidding me. That's suicide, Santa Cruz would get destroyed, just like Gary Russell got destroyed by Loma.
Haymon will most likely move him up and try to challenge for the featherweight belt against Gonzalez. The whole Mares scheme to get that WBC belt failed hilariously. lol
Which is why I really wanted Top Rank to get Loma to fight Gonzalez, because Haymon is hunting for that WBC, and once he gets it, nobody will be able to even get a sniff of a unification for it.

Re: RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
Oscar probably/more likely won't risk a fight this dangerous for his star fighter in Santa Cruz; I suspect that he will take a page out of the Bob Arum handbook of big fights and continue to let Leo, himself and whoever else in their camp state how badly they want this fight while never really signing off on it.
They will continue to use Rigo's name just to sell us on Leo.

Re: RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
Did you watch the fight? Russell was shadow boxing for the majority of the fight, moaning like Sharapova on the end of his punches to try to sell to the judges that there was actual "conctact". If it wasn't for GBs Lisa Giampa it would been what it was: a clear UD.Badhusker wrote:Russell got destroyed by Loma? okklitoris wrote:Haymon won't let him fight Rigo are you kidding me. I did watch the fight. Russell lost, admitted he lost, but was not destroyed in the process. A lot of his punches were not effective enough for judges to give him credit for. Good win for Loma. I thought after re-watching 116-112 was fair.klitoris wrote:Did you watch the fight? Re: RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
I didn't mean destroyed in a physical/damage taken understanding. I meant in boxing skills he got destroyed, because Lomachenko used his movement and slickness, to counter Russell who is probably the quickest puncher in the division. It looked like a boxing destruction because you would see Russell hitting air over and over again because Lomachenko would move so quickly sideways and change directions, while predicting Russell's barrage of punches.Badhusker wrote: I did watch the fight. Re: RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
Gary Russell is a damn good boxer and a decent man, Loma was far too sharp for him, that was probably the first time in Gary's life he faced someone quicker and let's not beat around the bush, Loma is a very peculiar talent.
I'd pick Rigo over Leo but Santa Cruz will press all night and won't be badly affected by a loss, personally or professionally - he'll probably gain fans in defeat and Rigo lose fans in victory.

Re: RIGONDEAUX-SANTA CRUZ NEGOTIATIONS GETTING STARTED
Before the Ruiz fight, Santa Cruz' father and trainer, Jose, was quoted as saying he had no interest in a fight with Rigo.
Claimed the reason was because the Cuban's style is boring and all he would do was grab, hold and run.
Feels the style won't make for a fan-friendly bout and therefore wants no part of the matchup.
Very noble of Jose Santa Cruz to watch out for the fans interests.
But the cynic in me wonders if he's really just looking out for his son, who figures to get smacked around for 12 by the Cuban. Santa Cruz has had his issues with boxer-types in the past. A bout with Rigo would probably be a stylistic nightmare for him. Father knows best.

Unless TR resigned Guillermo in the last couple days & I missed it he's not with TR any longer. He's back with that sketchy guy Caribe(?) guy or w/e 100%. He was co-promoted by TR for awhile. Believe RocNation had some interest in signing Guillermo. I think Guillermo would be a solid addition to GBP with GBP's newly lackluster roster.fergusg wrote:I have a query… will Al Haymon allow his man (Santa Cruz) to face the Top Rank promoted Guillermo Rigondeaux?:??

Leo has faced much worse opposition recently. That's why this fight won't happen. He has been getting $500-$700k to fight knockoversBatley18 wrote:I like Leo, but I can see this as being an easy night's work for Rigo.

Because he had the best manager/advisor in sports. This is called PRIZE fighting not pride fighting.

DLH only wants the best to fight the best?
Didn't DLH advise Canelo not to fight Trout or Lara?
DLH is full of shit and Rafeal is along for the ride. However, it's rumored that Haymon's league will be on ESPN too. Watch Rafeal change his tune just like Lampley.
