Happy Birthday, Scorpion!!!

Post by elmersalsa »

Today is the birthday of one of the all time greatest featherweight champs in history. I am talking about a top 100 p4p fighter of all time named Eusebio Pedroza. What a fighter. One of the great ones that I have seen in the last 37 years.

Happy birthday champ. He is 62 today.

I'll raise a glass in March.....just being a kid at the time, with a boxing scrapbook, I did not want to look beyond Barry winning the fight but having read Barry's top book it becomes clear that just getting ready to fight Pedroza required a completely different mindset and McGuigan and his people left absolutely nothing to chance. Panamian sparring partners were flown in with the brief to be as rough as possible and they were particularly concerned about Pedroza's strength and how he managed to make featherweight. Pedroza does look huge when you look back at the fight stills and video....a really intimidating presence at featherweight.

indeed, very tall without seeming at all skinny with it. how he made 126 for all those years, god, during training camp he must have shed tears at the sight of carbohydrates. or water.
