Best Experience at a live fight
It's friday afternoon and my brains a bit whacked today so looking for a bit of light entertainment.
It may have been done before but was just wondering what people's best experience has been at a live event. Could be action in the ring, bumping into a famous fighter and having a chat etc. Basically, anything that made it stand out for you.
To get things rolling, i'd probably go with the Haye beating Mormeck in Paris. The place emptied pretty much straight away apart from a few British fans remaining which meant that the whole place was accessible. Got to have a few photos taken with Haye by the ring, met a few other people ringside and generally got to dick about with the ring cards and stuff. About a year ago, a picture popped up on Haye's twitter with me photobombing in the background (by accident!). All in all, a pretty one-off occasion for a standard ticket buyer like myself.

For me it was the buzz of going to my first world title fight, Froch vs Pascal.
Atmosphere was fantastic and it turned out to be a decent fight too, loved it so much that ive been to almost every froch fight since but despite people saying its an electric atmosphere etc its never been as good as it was that night.

Two for me.
Naz beating Robinson in 1995 and Ryan beating Jamie Moore in 2009.
A close third is Johnny beating Carl Thompson in 1999.

I know you're close to those fighters so was it more the relief in the ring or the celebration afterwards that made it so memorable?Parson Cross wrote:Two for me.

I remember the Rhodes Moore fight very well. Have to say that i was gutted Rhodes won, didn't think he hadn't left in him. Actually, i guess i've answered one of my own questions there!

I was at that one too and it was a brilliant night although i was suffering from severe jet lag as i'd landed that day from a trip to Vegas watching Hatton Malignaggi. It's a good job it was an all out war!Looking On wrote:For me it was the buzz of going to my first world title fight, Froch vs Pascal.

Freddie
With Naz it was the first time I realised that psychology plays a part in sport - a bigger part than I ever though possible.
Naz won that fight at the weigh in.
The atmosphere was electic and there's just something about being an away supporter when you witness a performance like that.
Ryan similar mate in that he was way from home and basically written off by many.
However I could visibly see Ryan's confidence grow from the weigh in onwards.
It was a great fight as well.
Johnny's different really.
It was going through the mill with him prior to this fight and finally seeing him achieve something that many thought was not possible because of his mental fragility.
Yes they all stick in the memory for personal reasons but all great times.

Remember your piece on BBN with Jamie going through the fight afterwardsTerry Dooley wrote: Then of course you had the fight itself and I got to watch it with the winner on the Monday.
Re: Best Experience at a live fight
Would have to go with Macklin-Martinez in NY for the overall experience.
5 of us out there - barged into the weigh-in at the Garden past a few 50 year old masquerading as security with the sky crew, which was a small event having a chat with Khan, etc. Out on the lash afterwards until 6am, bird back to the room - booted her out early to go and watch Wales win the Grand Slam, Muamba die on the pitch
....followed by the Paddy's day parade, more boozing and the fight itself - then the post-fight party ended up with Buddy McGirt an and his daughter sat at our booth.
Trip over for Sturm was quality too. Need to keep a few pennies in reserve and wait for the next trip away

This is bias, but for me it was when,Mike Jennings knocked Jimmy vincent out in the 1st round, for the British title at the Bolton arena.
He had sold a 1000 tickets personally for the fight, and it was live on itv 1.Very proud moment.

yeah sorry mate, needs must and allTerry Dooley wrote:Michael Brodie Vs Chi 1. It was my other half’s first live fight. The card was decent enough. The atmosphere was great. Amazing fight despite disappointment over the result. There was a Korean lad at ringside, he kept running over to shout advice, would get shouted down by the Mancs at ringside then repeat the whole cycle. After the change of result, some of the guys comforted him.
I also got Audley Harrison’s autograph, so it was an epic night.
I work most of the fights I go to these days so can’t show emotion or root, which is half the fun of being a fan, but I got a buzz out of Moore-Macklin as I spent time in both gyms during the build-up. It was a great insight, apart from the time one of Moore’s mates got me in a (friendly) headlock and asked if I was a spy. That and Billy Graham asking me how Jamie was looking, me denying I’d seen him recently and Graham shouting: “I heard you were in the f*cking gym with him yesterday!” Then of course you had the fight itself and I got to watch it with the winner on the Monday.
That said, a massive Brummie lad practically lived on my back throughout the duration of that one.

weird mate, very weirdhurlock wrote:Don't start parsons on the wankobank!!
Why don't you just give a comment on what's being discussed rather than being a dick.
Back on topic, being ringside to see me mate Stuey Hall win his world title was amazing, its personal obviously but that for me was my highlight.
On the flipside, worst was going to Germany to see Haye....... the fight, the weather, everything was wank. Beer was ok though I guess

Mine was probably Calzaghe vs Juan Carlos Gimenez. Not because of the fight itself, but it was the first fight I ever attended (and was actually ringside as my mum won the tickets in a competition
). I was a boxing fan before, but attending a world title fight turned me into a hardcore for life.

Froch v Bute in 2012 - travelled all the way down to Nottingham from Glasgow, and it was well worth the trip. Bute shat it bigtime when the crowd got behind Froch! Frampton was on the Undercard too, so that was a bonus.

Yep both of them 1994 and 1996 but guess you'll be wanting to talk about the latter.
9 crazy minutes and 7 knock downs.
Thaxton only took 1 round to win that night as well - but then again I need to shut up about Wincobank.
Rhodes v Woolcombe at York Hall wasn't bad .... oops there I go again.

Hurlock,
Went to Co Cork in 1996 to watch Collins fight Neville Brown for WBO title.
So have you ventured anywhere other than York Hall ?

Re: Best Experience at a live fight
I've only been to 6 live shows.
But going to belfast, and then getting to stand right in the corner by the entrance curtain when carl frampton came out against martinez back in September was unbelievable.
As intense a support as I've ever experience watching sport around the world.
Fight was a masterclass but that entrance was something else.
