Highest percentage of draws in relation to fights

67 draws! That was back in the 20's and 30's. They must have called a lot more draws back then. Actually I think they should go back to that, because a lot of these close, not to mention home town and outright crooked, decisions today would be more fairly called a draw.

Anyone who draws as well as these guys have to be considered first class artists.

During the "4-Round Bout Era" in California and Washington (ca. 1914 to 1925), a huge percentage of the bouts ended with draw decisions in the mentioned states. Besides Young Farrell and Joe Gorman, other West Coast fighters of the era who had a huge percentage of their bouts ending with draw decisions included Joe "Petie" Coffey, Al Walker, Paddy Dillon, Kid Mexico, Billy Alvares, Salinas Jack Robinson, Steve Dalton, Eddie Shannon, Leo Houck of Seattle, Joe Azevedo, Johnny Arrousey, Frankie Malone, Lee Johnson, Jimmy Dundee, Young Brown, Earl Baird, Bud Ridley, Tommy Richards and Gene Watson. There must be many more.

Chet Neff, another West Coast boxer of the era, had 79 draws in 179 bouts, not counting his two no-decision bouts, one of which is listed as a draw. I knew quite about Neff, but didn't realize that he had so many bouts ending with draw decisions.

Before going up to the Northwest in early 1921, Dave Shade had 36 wins, 9 losses and 39 draws, 2 no-contests and a scheduled bout with no listed result, according to his record on BoxRec.
