Fury named a few others, I can't remember who, but they were French and I think he said the Hiltons from Canada. Fury knows his boxing.hurlock wrote:There hadn't been much press about it

I'm not sure if Benichou was Romani (though I've heard conflicting things about his ancestry, I think he was just born to folk who worked in a circus) but people have told me that Laurent Boudouani was half-Algerian half-Gitan.mickey1975 wrote:Fury named a few others, I can't remember who, but they were French and I think he said the Hiltons from Canada. & the Italian Silvio Branco's Romani. Fought Woodhall waaaaaaaay back for the Euro middle title & in middle age won a portion of the light-heavy world title.

That was the other fella I was thinking of.
I know it was said he (Fabrice) was from a circus family (so was Jorge Paez!) but I remember him being described as a gypsy.
Jem Mace, it would seem there's a lot of controversy about whether he "was" or wasn't.

Think it was Fabrice Tiozzo.mickey1975 wrote:Fury named a few others, I can't remember who, but they were French and I think he said the Hiltons from Canada. Fury knows his boxing.hurlock wrote:There hadn't been much press about it
Were the Hilton's actually travellers, or did they just move around a lot? Never been able to find much that says they were, just a bit about them moving around in a trailer in the early days of Matthew's professional career and the book Dave's daughters wrote about him abusing them was in French, which doesn't suggest traveller to me either. I think Lee's the first Irish traveller world champion but there's probably been others in the past from different countries.

I don't think the Tiozzos are Gitans.
