Son of Tommy Morrison

Post by Gnome »

Trey Lippe, Tommy's son, is 6(6)-0, those fights lasting a collective 7 rounds. He is making a step up against 5(3)-2 Richard Dawson, who would be best known in the States for beating 16-3 Ty Cobb but known in the UK for losing to Freddie Flintoff by hardly throwing a punch (surely he threw it).

Has anyone seen Lippe fight? He is 26 and fought three times in 2014 against novices so would need to step it up if he wants to make an impact.

Is he a decent prospect?

Haven't seen him fight, but have been following his progress. I think its a lil early to consider him a legit prospect. He's on my watch list along with his brother Kenzie Witt(?) who's been fighting on the same cards as him as I was a Tommy Morrison fan back in the day. Currently it seems like he's just won fights a lot of guys would be winning at this point.

They are green but getting better. They have a large local following and local casino support so unless they falter stepping up slowly they will be around awhile. They haven't fought anybody yet but as new as they are Dobbs is doing a great job helping bring them along so far.

Dawson did throw one punch in that fight and nearly knocked out Flintoff! He basically didn't try

Galen. Theyre not looking to fight someone with a sign of a pulse. So forget it.

There's an article on BS about the fight - apparently Richard Dawson's dad was once scheduled to fight Tommy Morrison but the fight fell through! The next generation will sort out the family feud for them.

Another sone of Tommy Morrison, Kenzie Witt-Morrison, also a heavyweight at 3-0-0 / 3 KO's is on the card. He is a half-brother of Trey. It will be interesting to see which son of Morrison goes farther in the heavyweight division.

Here is some video of Trey sparring with Tyson Cobb. Trey has BIG TIME power. His brother Kenzie is smaller and more athletic and faster. But really needs to put on some weight if he wants to stay at heavy. He is only about 200lbs.

Trey Lippe knocked Dawson out cold in the first round. :bag:

His brother, Tommy's other son, also won KO1 v Briam Imes.

I will be following these two young heavyweights careers!

I have seen all of his fights on line. Here's what you need to know.

Trey is an x football player like Tommy was. Unlike Tommy, Trey had a later start into boxing. He has his father's power and can end a fight with either hand. The power is for real. Its a 10. Very good hand speed. Good movement / athletic ability. Better foot speed than his dad. Those who knew worked with Tommy say Trey is a lot like him on offense. Trey's a bit more level headed that his dad, and does not have multiple injures or outside the ring issues with drugs.

Now for the bad. Trey is raw, and won't learn much with 1st round KO's. He was floored in his first pro fight, but not hurt. His defense vs the jab needs a lot of work and his reach is but 74", meaning he will have to use the old Joe Frazier's style to get past longer armed power hitters. Trey's at least two years away from fighting a dangerous journeyman type. For now his toughest fights are in the gym. He could take a D. Wilder path to a title shot.

Prediction: Impossible to say until he's gone at least 6 rounds, and has 2 years as a pro under his belt. On upside I would say he's a bit better than Joe Mesi, and should have quite a bandwagon if he keeps winning. Boxing needs regional stars. Once Wlad retires, the field is rather open.

As an athlete, boxer, and puncher. Yeah he can put rear ends in the seat too. Tommy's boy Trey has some serious potential. He just needs to be brought along slowly as he had next to no amateur experience.
