Joshua/Butlin/Whyte Saga

Post by cold187 »

what actually happened o twitter. heard AJ put a picture of his punching butlin (but just to show DW what he can do), but butlin saw is offensively. I read AJ said a few "everyday" harsh words in a reply at butlin.

then heard AJ deleted all his tweets last night

enlighten me?

From what I saw, Joshua tweeted "Shout out to the boxers who've fought a couple journey men and start thinking they can conquer the heavyweight division #StayHumble".

People assumed rightly or wrongly, that it was aimed at Whyte. they went back and forth and Joshua tweeted a pic of Butlin after their fight, saying "this is what I do to journeymen".

Feel a bit for an honest fella like Butlin, but by the same token as a fight fan - it's good Joshua finally dropped that manicured / safe personality for a split second.

Butlin takes offense very easily on twitter, just look back to the war of words he had with Shane Mphilbin that eventually ruined their fight.

AJ was disrespecting butlin, he was basically telling DW what he is capable of. AJ had praise for butlin before and it wasnt a direct dig at butlin himself.

AJ could have used anyone picture with airich, baktov etc. just happened to be butlin

Looked like a dig at butlin to me. Butlin called him a wanker after he posted it. Would love to see whyte take out joshua and see the look on hearns face. This would be a huge british title fight, similar to groves v degale. Olympic heavyweight champ who wasn't even the best heavyweight in london. From twitter whyte is desperate for the fight, joshua dosent seem so keen tho.

Of course he isn't keen, what does Whyte bring to the table? Outside of the boxing "community" his name means nothing. If you're going to pick a live opponent for AJ it needs to be a bigger name with a considerably better ranking than Whyte.

Obviously, if he can work his way up the rankings and get himself some exposure then the fight could make sense - right now AJ would be taking all the risk for very little (potential) reward, while Whyte has everything to gain. It's not even about who is the better boxer (can make an argument for both sides) but Joshua is well ranked by the governing bodies and is now very well known so fighting/beating Whyte would gain nothing.

Britishs title fight, would make perfect sense. No one really knew much about groves before the degale fight was made either besides people who followed boxing.

The gap between Joshua and Whyte is considerably larger than the gap was between Groves and DeGale. Not necessarily in terms of ability but Groves was the British Champion and had beaten a few live opponents in Adamu, Anderson etc.

Leaving aside any bias for or against Hearn/Joshua, the governing bodies rank AJ considerably higher and Whyte will have to earn the fight. Klitschko wouldn't fight Joshua now - nothing to do with whether he would beat him or not, Joshua just hasn't done enough to get the fight.

Funny how people who dislike AJ because of his hype are jumping on Whytes bandwagon who is only known because of AJ hype. Guy is fighting corpses. Let him first achieve half of what Joshua achieved before mentioning him in the discussion.

Cant wait to see the hungry humble FCUK sponsored hype train derailed. AJ is more logo than fighter.

They have both achieved the same as a pro, absolutely nothing. Also does anyone not agree with the fact that savon comfortably beat AJ in the 1st round of the Olympics? No one seems to bring this up.

Talking about Savon, he scored a beautiful KO recently in the WSB. Absolute cracker of shot.

Maybe it's just on the threads I've been reading, but it seems to get brought every time anyone mentions the Olympic medal. It's far from a forgotten.

I do agree Savon won though.

Mickey, less so with Cammerale I remember that as being very close.

I agree. He lost both of those. BUT he hasn't put a foot wrong in the pros and I think his quality of oppo is slightly higher than Whyte. And he has been impressive.

In the UK were very cynical about hype and hate it, esp after the Audley train. It is off putting though most of it comes from the promoter.

Ps what is the lowdown on Whyte's drug ban?

He took a supplement which contained a banned stimulant. It's the same one Enzo Mac (I believe) and a few others have been banned for.

The board apparently gave Whyte a particularly heavy ban because he said he'd taken it on the day of the fight, rather than just during training.

Ah thanks. I can see an all British showdown in a year if they keep winning and Unfortunately, Whyte needs to step up his goading a bit - a grudge match sells.

Whyte needs one big win to put him in the spotlight

Hopefully the papers get hold of the rivalry at some point. Although I'm sure they would have already if Hearn had any interest in the fight.

I rate Whyte and think he's easily the most interesting fight for AJ of anyone at British level. Would be good to see Whyte weighing in the 220/30s again first though.

Yeah I didn't see that one as being very close at all.
