Andy Lee v Peter Quillin

Post by brilo33 »

i dont fancy andys chances, but i thought that for his last couple of fights, and well he is world champion. feel he will have to knock Quillin out to win, which if you said last year i would say your mad, but today i would say can be done

I fancy Lees chances here Quillin hasn't fought for nearly a year and that was against a career light middle who was European level.

Should be a good fight though hope Andy does the job seems a top bloke.

I thought Lee only won one round against Jackson and one against Korobov. Despite ending matters impressively I thought he generally looked mediocre, and I believe that Quillin is significantly more durable than the pair he stopped and probably more durable than Lee. Quillin is heavy-handed himself and has decent boxing skills, and I like him to break down Andy for a clear decision or late stoppage.

quillin is just a bit better all round than lee, but i do find myself rooting for lee he comes across as a genuinely sound fella, and he does seem to be fighting with a bit more self belief these days, hope he can pull another big punch out and starch quillin, but i can't see it happening lightning striking 3 times.

Adam Booth's input in this fight could be a major factor during the fight, everyone's been focused on Lee's power but I actually thought he was boxing well before the Korobov KO and according to both Andy and Adam they were boxing to a well thought out plan before the finish came

Adam has a wealth of experience of his men going into fights as underdogs and him coming up trumps with his men boxing to orders to come out on top,Quillin's a great fighter but I'm sure Adam's seen plenty to exploit

Adam won't be in there Fighting him, come to think of it Adam ain't done much fighting at all... Put Adam with someone that can't box and imo he will stay that way.. I haven't got anything against Adam I think he's a nice person But it's the boxers who he's work with that are good in the 1st place...

Quillin will clearly go in as favourite but I can only see this being the toughest fight of his career, particularly considering his long period of inactivity. Lee must feel on top of the world right now & I've got no doubt he'll put up a strong showing. Looking forward to it. :box:

I went with Lee KO7 in the PTBF because he seems to be on a bit of crest with the come from behind KO's so long may it continue

That's mainly my heart thinking though, my head kinda thinks Quillin is too good for him and I can't see Andy outpointing him so he'll need a KO I think

If pushed I'll go with Quillin on points

Quillin's missed the weight, came in at 160.6 after 2 attempts so won't be able to win the belt.

Bloody good! That's what he and his manager get for ducking Korobov ,it seems at least once a month for the past 5 years someone on a big American card fails to make weight in a world title fight

Great news for Billy Joe Saunders, either Lee wins and he fights him, or Quillin wins and he fights for the vacant belt, Jermall Charlo would be in next in line but he seems more likely to fight at 11st, then Geale, who's rumoured to be fighting Cotto, Monroe, who's fighting Golovkin, Lemieux, who's fighting for the IBF. That then leaves John Ryder at 7 as the next potential opponent, but if Lee were to lose, I think he would be put in as Saunders' opponent for the vacant title rather than going that far down the rankings.

Edit: Fight now non title, don't know whether that means Lee will still be champion if he loses though.

Also gives Lee the advantage in the fight, to miss the weight, then go away and try and take it off, come back, still over, go off again, come back, strip off and still miss the weight, Quillin must be absolutely bone dry.

And that can't be good for his punch resistance against a banger like Lee,I hope Andy sparks him clean out

To not make the weight after two attempts, Quillin must be struggling.

I fancy Andy Lee to KO him now.

WBO tweeted that Lee is still champ if he loses. Worked out great for him....a fat payday and a belt to take home for a big domestic fight, though admittedly some of the luster will be taken off the latter if he loses tomorrow.

not sure i'd be gutted for him....if i was part of his team i'd be getting him in the mindframe of nothing changed and hes defending.
quillan only a touch over and wont have any advantage from this. fight will be the same.
if anything an advantage for lee....if things go tits up for him and he loses....he's still got the belt and another huge payday versus saunders hopefully, which wouldnt have been there otherwise.
of course i hope lee wins.

(c)Overweight Contestants.
1.(1) If a World Champion fails to make the prescribed weight for his category and the challenger makes weight, the Champion shall lose the title at the scales, and the Championship shall then and there be declared vacant. The Championship may not, however, be won at the scales. The fight shall be carried out as planned, and if the challenger, having made the weight, wins the contest, the challenger shall be the successor of the Championship; but if the prior Champion whose Championship was vacated at the scales wins the contest, the championship shall remain vacant.
2.(2) If the Champion makes the weight and the challenger fails to do so, the Champion, whether or not he loses the fight, shall retain the title.
3.(3) If both the Champion and the challenger fail to make weight, the Championship shall not be vacated at the scale and the fight will go forward as a non-title fight and the Champion, whether or not he loses the fight, shall retain the title.

Quillin has had to pay Lee $125,000 from his purse too, couldn't have worked out any better for Lee.
Good luck to Andy.

Things are defo more in Lee's favour now but it'd be good to see him get a fast start this time around.

4/1 Lee ko has to be worth a small bet now.

Draw (113-112 for each of them and 113-113). Lee officially down twice although the second KD was questionable, Quillin hurt in the third then dropped in the seventh. Quillin started well but his output seemed to drop significantly after being floored (weary of Lee's power?) and Lee clawed his way back into it. Punch stats were given as:

Total Punches Landed

Peter Quillin 103 out of 267 , 38,67% Landed
Andy Lee 113 out of 299 , 37,79% Landed

A fair result in my opinion and it adds more credibility to the title fight status of Lee-BJS.
